Who tells people this stuff?

So I'm on FB today and my cousin who I haven't seen in about 12 years since she moved back to Mexico IMs me for the first time. This is the first contact I've ever had with her since childhood.

She asks me how I'm doing. I told her fine. She says I saw your wedding pictures. You look really nice. I didn't believe it, but I'm glad for you. Good luck.

Seriously? Why the fluck is she wishing me luck on my marriage that you didn't believe I had?

  • She didn't believe it? That's not something I would tell someone I haven't spoken to in 12 years.

  • Maybe just one of those 'I can't believe how much has changed in 12 years!' kind of things? Or that you've grown up since she really remembers you from forever ago?
  • What a jerk!  My MIL is notorious for comments that are supposed to give a little bit of a dig but overall "seem" nice.  It drives. me. crazy.

And really, how is someone you've had no contact with since childhood have any opinion on if she thinks you'd be married or not?!?!?  JERK!
