Anyone get Botox for migraine prophylaxis?

I'm thinking about asking my neurologist... I have taken other meds for migraine prevention, and all have giving me other issues, side effects...

i've been having more migraines lately and think i need something to prevent again- and Botox might be an answer...

just wondering how often you had to have injections, where they were, etc?

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

Re: Anyone get Botox for migraine prophylaxis?

  • I have used it for TMJ. It is an off label promotion. However, it has been a lifesaver for me.

    that's good to hear!

it is approved now for migraines, which is why i'm thinking I might give it a try- since hopefully insurance will cover it now (i probably need to show failure on other meds, which I have done already).

I have TMJ issues, too, which probably cause some of my migraines. I had a retainer made to help... it seemed to help the first year- but not anymore.

  • I would be very interested in learning more about this. My migraines are now as regular as clockwork. I lose at a day per month to them. I haven't tried migraine Rxs bc we have been trying to conceive #2 for f'ing ever, but it is the first thing on my list (after a wicked bender and related headache!) when we officially call it quits.

I also suffer from TMJ periodically -- I wake up with a dagger sticking behind my ear. Acupuncture has significantly reduced the frequency.

Maybe I will just botox the crap out of my entire head and I'll be all better (and look younger too!). Probably cheaper than a head transplant.

    ttc #2 since 6/09 ** au naturel (many months) = bfn ** acupuncture + herbs (many months) = bfn ** acupuncture + herbs + IUI (2 rounds) = bfn ** gonal f + ovidrel + IUI (7 rounds) = bfn ** IVF w/ICSI+PGD - all embryos arrested 4/28/12 GAME OVER ** image >

LOL - i have wanted a head transplant many days :)

it was HORRIBLE when i was TTC and pregnant... ugh - i feel your pain.  that's the one good thing about it now- when i get a migraine at least i can drug myself up like crazy aith 4 advil + Relpax... and that usually kills it- but sometimes it's not enough and i suffer for a day or two.

i'll let you know - going to try and get an appt soon!
