Can you put DVDs on an iphone?

I wanted to put some episodes of Friends on my phone for the gym but I can't figure out how.  I had assumed it would be just like doing a CD, but I was very wrong.

MH has put DVDs on his iPod Touch, so it may be possible to put them on your iPhone. He uses a software program to transcode the DVD to a file type & size that can go on the iPod. I'll ask him what it's called.

I think there is a program called DVD Ripper (or something like that). I'll ask my husband and post tomorrow if I'm really off on the name. He reads all those geeky/tech/gadget/electronics magazines. He'll prob know.
