Going home with foreign DH?

Re: Going home with foreign DH?

  • Do you have dual-citizenship? Have you guys thought of maybe moving to somewhere else in the EU? I know that NL, for example, has quite a shortage on most language teachers for both institutes and public schools.

A move within the EU would be a cheaper option right now since you would not need a visa for H and maybe he can do some intensive English lessons or practice before you guys relocate.

The shots and medical exams for H's green card only cost is $225 and we had it done in the US at an approved health clinic.

  • Just throwing this in for an FYI ...

I needed to have a physical, TB and blood work (HIV was included) in order to get my 1st Visa for Australia.  They need to make sure you aren't bringing in any communicable diseases AND that you aren't going to cost the healthcare system too much money,  My atty was a little worried about my asthma!

I had read about one case where a doctor and his family were refused permanent residency because his son had Down Syndrome.  The community petitioned for a reversal because the doctor was needed.  I'm not sure how that one ever panned out.

I don't, but I am the spouse of an EU citizen and have my residency card which I understand means I can live and work in any EU member state.

What are the requirements for teaching in the NL?

I'm not sure of the qualifications for Switzerland for teaching positions but there is quite a good amount of international schools that I was aware of. EU spouse/citizens are able to work there but I'm not sure of the details. Pay is usually very good to compensate the high cost of living. If I would of had a FT nanny position there I would of been making more than DH at his hotel job.
