What happened to my happy baby?

All of a sudden she is not tolerating eating well at all.  She slept 8 hours straight last night which was amazing.  At 5:30 she woke to eat and right after she breastfed on both sides she puked all over the place many times.  This was similar to the episode she had the other day after she drank a bottle of formula.  I emailed my Dr. who said he wasn't sure if she had an intolerance to the formula or if she is getting sick or what so he suggested breastfeeding her from only one side for now and then the other side an hour later and to stop the formula for now to rule that out.

I don't know...I sort of think she either drank too much breast milk, or is having an intolerance to something I ate.  I'm so confused.  Up until introducing the formula she was fine.

Sorry to keep posting about this but just looking for some advice.  I wanted to continue with the formula today but now it seems that the Doc is suggesting otherwise.

Re: What happened to my happy baby?

  • sounds like my son, when he was that age.  eventually we figured out he had a milk protein sensitivity and he was on neutramagin for 12 months.  i think it is confusing to be giving the baby both breast milk and formula if you are trying to figure out what is causing the gi problem.  Even if you eliminate dairy from your diet it will take 10-14 days for it to be cleared out and not see a breastfeeding intolerance.
  • is she congested or eating too much or too fast? i would skip the formula for now and see if it happens once she's been a few days without it.  is it projectile vomiting or just kinda... coming out?

I think she ate too much too fast because she was sleeping for 8 hours which never happens and then I was so engorged she ate fast from both breasts and she now has a wheezing cough so I think that between those two factors it made her vomit.  It was not projectile but it was really bad and a lot.  She was puking, not spitting up and it happened a few times when she was coughing.  I'm bringing her to the Dr. tomorrow for the cough so I will ask then.  For the rest of the day she was good so I'm not sure.

    Thanks!
