Help! Restaurant recs?

My parents want to take DH & I out to dinner for my birthday, which is awesome. Problem is, I have no idea where to go! My dad would like to go downtown if possible, and I'd like to avoid Vesta, the 9th Door, Osteria Marco and the steakhouses (not because they aren't wonderful, but because they seem to be where we always go!). I'm sending a few to my parents and letting them pick, but right now my very sad little list is Rioja & Sushi Sasa. We are open to any kind of food, but if it's a sushi place it has to have cooked entrees because my mom doesn't eat sushi. I could probably convince my dad to go to other areas, too, as long as they aren't crazy far away.

Any suggestions? It's been so long so we've gone somewhere nice for dinner, I need all the help I can get! Thanks ladies :)

  • There will be many other awesome suggestions I'm sure, but we've been to and enjoyed:

Le Chateau (used to be La Fondue)

    The Keg

    Denver Chophouse

    Le Grand Bistro

    ChallengeAcceptedMeme_TwoParty
  • Some of my faves are Luca d'Italia, Fruition, duo, and Venue.  Sushi Sasa is really good, so I would keep that in mind.  It might be fun to get a drink at the Green Russell before or after dinner.  Have a fun dinner!

  • Le Central is my favorite....not located in the heart of downtown though.  On 12th and Lincoln I believe.

I also really like the Samba Room in Larimer Square.  It is a bit more pricey though so depends how fancy/expensive you are wanting to keep it at.  It isn't crazy but certainly not cheap (20-30 per entree if I remember right). But it is very good.

I'm pretty sure the Samba Room closed about a year ago.

I love Sushi Sasa, just not sure I can convince my mom, who won't touch sushi with someone else's fork. I'm sending it to them anyway, since it's one of my favorites :)

Thanks ladies, these are great options!

Crap....thanks for letting me know!  Sorry about that.  Obviously it has been awhile since I've been there :-/  We only get a chance to come to Denver once a year in the past couple of years (if that) so that has limited the number of times I've been to Larimer Square.

The last time I was in Denver we ate here.  It was delicious and is on Wynkoop.

We ate here a couple years ago and it was pretty good.  We also like Oceanair, The Edge and S liked 1515.

  • I love Zengo... sushi and Latin cuisine fusion and very good food.

Root Down (in the Highlands, so not far from downtown) is so good, too!  That's where we went for my birthday last year and I want to go again this year.

  • We love Zengo a lot. I hope they have their chinese new year menu out already cause their specials are so good. I also recommend Duo and Root Down.

  • Thanks ladies! I've been to Zengo a ton, so I want to find somewhere I haven't been before (or at least, that I haven't been as often) :). I think I found a couple more to add to the list, now I just have to see what my mom will pick!

  • Olivea would be my pick- we had a fantastic dinner there last summer. Euclid Hall would ne fun also if you are looking for a more lively atmosphere. The duck poutine is amazing!
  • I second Chop House and Zengo.  Also love Rodizio.
  • I like Zengo also, and Amato's Ale House - an upscale brewpub. I also like Linger. Both of those are on the West side of 25, though, so not downtown, but you can cross the pedestrian bridge on 16th and be at the front door of Amato's.
