Re: asked b4- but costco v. same v. BJs?

  • I haven't been to Costco in ages since there aren't any nearby.  Sam's is the most convenient for us, but we belong to BJs.  I like that BJs has a decent selection of organic items and also accepts credit cards/coupons (which is funny b/c it's the only place I use coupons).
  • I belonged to BJs a LONG time ago.  Started using Costco maybe 10 years ago and never looked back.  We're very happy with all of their products (everything from clothes to toys to food to appliances) and their locations are easy to get to.  The one down by our shore house is the BEST because it's brand new and always empty.

I have no experience with Sam's.

  • I only went to BJ's a few times and I wasnt impressed. Costco has a ton of their own items they produce which are great (kirkland brand) and I feel like they are a larger company and they get the better stuff.
  • I like BJs because they send you their own coupons and you can use manufactures coupons, so they'll send you a $5 off coupon for diapers that you can use along w/ a $2 off from the company.  After you go there enough they send you a young family coupon book with more coupons for baby things.  I go to the one in Rutherford which gets crowded, but not as bad as the Costco in Paramus I'd have to go to.  Plus they sell liquor at a good price and Costco doesn't

  • We actually have memberships at all 3!  They are all so different to me.  Each has their own little thing that I like best about them.  BJ's feels more supermarkety to me for some reason, I guess maybe because they have a deli and take coupons?  I don't know but I like Costco for certain things and Sam's for other things.  I would just join the club that's most convenient for you.  I'm a shopaholic and I'm always all over the place, so I like to be able to shop at all three. But I think I like Sam's the best.
  • We belong to Costco b/c it's closest to us but my parents belong to BJ's and Sam's.  I like all 3 for different reasons.  BJ's has Pampers, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers (Costco doesn't carry) and Bounty Select a Size (Costco only has the regular sheets).  I like BJ's produce least and Sam's meat best.  BJ's also sells single 1/2 gallons of Organic Milk.

  • We are a Costco family and are happy with them.  My BFF keeps nagging me to come to BJs (she works PT as her 2nd job there).  I may check it out since she can get me a free membership (as long as she works there she gets so many a year to give to people).  I hear they do take manufact. coupons and carry Pampers diapers.

  • diapers don't matter since I use cloth- but looking mainly to help with meat and stuff- I don't know- I know me and this will encourage impulse shopping lol! I think I will just stick to trader joes, whole foods, and shop rite/stop and shop- I think a membership will cost me money, lol!

  • we had costco and then switched to BJ's when our membership expired since they carried the formula we were using at a great price. we miss costco. a lot. their fruit & veggie section, the meats, the dairy cases, the prepared foods, and the bakery all rock.

bj's is closer to our house and i love that i can use manufacturer's coupons as well as credit cards there. also, you can buy smaller sized packages of fruits & veggies in their produce aisle, and like 1 loaf of bread at a time, so it's a tough one. i find that the prices aren't all that great on everything at BJ's -- a lot of times i can get it for close to the same price at shoprite (or even cheaper when stuff is on sale, plus i don't have to buy 2 jumbo bottles of something like ketchup). but they do sell luvs & pampers at BJ's which we use (and always have coupons in the mailers they send out)

so it's a tough one. once he's out of diapers (and we're done having kids) we'll definitely be back to costco. the only bad thing is that there's no costco where we want to move to! :(

  • I definitely save money food shopping at BJs. Their deli meats are half the price and delicious! I love their turkey breast. I was a member at SAMs and the bad thing about them is the low selection. Like they have 2 coffee brands while BJs has several. I've had stuff at parties from Costco and it's been tasty. I heard they are the best, but I do the closest to my house which is BJs.
  • they both have pros/cons. BJs has a deli and takes coupons. Costco has better meats. Personally, I prefer costco better but have tried bjs a few times in the past & have always gone back to costco.

if bjs were the only one near me,  would be ok w/that and go there.

  • We are a Costco family. We get lots of stuff there....organic milk, liquor, paper products, meats, produce, baby wipes, etc. they are also great at customer service...when you buy electronics and computers...they add a year to the warranty.we just had an issue w our Vizio tv and Costco called us 3 times to make sure it was handled properly. We always get our party cakes there.
