Need Help: Windows 7 Home Premium Won't Shut Down

I bought an HP laptop about three months ago, if that, and I am having a tremendous amount of trouble shutting the computer down.  If it tries to install and update that requires a restart of the computer it gets caught up on the update.  If I click start>shut down it gets stuck.

I don't want to keep manually holding down the power key to shut it down.  Any thoughts as to what could be going on and how I can fix it?

Re: Need Help: Windows 7 Home Premium Won't Shut Down

  • if it happens during/ or right after an update, there is probably still processing going on , that is not visible to you.  Just be patient and let it shut down on it's own.
  • Thanks.  I thought that might be it, but sometimes it seems like it's stuck like that for hours.  I'll try and be more patient.
  • Shut downs and restarts are different.  If it's calling for a restart to complete an update, then restart.
