Irrational Fears?

This is going to sound mean, but I'm sincere.  Is it exhausting having all these fears?  It wouldn't have even occurred to me to fear most on this list.  But, I'l logical like a Vulcan, so I know I'm the unusual one.

It is, a little. I don't have a lot of fears, just the sheep phobia, so it's usually not a big deal. But I do have severe anxiety if I'm driving through farmland. H's family lives in MA, and I saw a sheep farm on the way to their house and had a panic attack. I'm scared that if I saw one while I was driving that I would get into a car accident because of my reaction, so driving around farms does stress me out.

It's also tiring when people find out about my phobia and immediately want to make a bleating noise or show me a picture specifically because they think it's hilarious to be scared of sheep. I know it's ridiculous, I am aware.

  • Don't go to NZ, risky.  Sheep are everywhere.  Sometimes they even stop traffic when they cross the road.  I loved it and kept pulling over to spot and take pictures of black sheep.

KC, I used to be quite afraid of atomic warfare.  It was all b/c of a book I had to read in middle school.  But I didn't think about that very often, and now I never think of it, at least not outside of the context of politics.

The black ones are the worst! They look additionally sinister. And no, NZ is definitely not on my list of places to visit for that specific reason. Ireland, too.

What was the name of the book? I read one like that and now I can't think of the name.

Yes!  I actually loved that book despite the resulting fear.

We read it in 8th grade, the year when all our lit had something to do with Florida (where I lived).  There was a single throwaway line about a bomb taking out ft. laud/hollywood, and I lived in ft laud.  I was listening to Nirvana Unplugged (this tells you my age), and Jesus Don't Want Me for a Sunbeam was playing when I read that line.  For years I'd think of that when I listened to that song.

I had no idea anyone else read it.  It wasn't read in the public schools locally.

Haha I have no idea why we read it since I grew up in Houston. I was in "honors" english in 9th grade and it was one of the last books we read. We had to read all about mythology that year so maybe they chose it as a fun read at the end of the year. It used to always be one of my favorite books and now I'm thinking about buying it. I bet DH would like it too.

  • I had a friend who did a semester abroad in Ireland, and he had a LOT of pictures of sheep. I may just be basing my fear of going to Ireland off of that fact. But it is definitely a concern.
