Melting Pot Question

How long is your meal?  I imagine it takes a while to cook the food and then eat...also, what cooking style is best?  Thanks in advance!

Re: Melting Pot Question

  • You're looking at easily a 2-3 hour meal.  There are lots of cooking styles that are good (don't remember the names of the ones we get) but they depend on your taste.  Also, depending on what protein you get, there's are some good flavor combinations for each...your server can advise you on the specifics.  Have fun--and don't plan on eating for multiple hours before and after!!  :)

Someone once told me to skip the meat course and just get the cheese course and then dessert. Thoughts on that?

I went once or twice with MH and loved everything but the meat course.

I went again with my sister because the Hoboken location has a Ladies Night special ...  cheese course, a salad or a glass of wine , and the chocolate course for $20pp. We opted for the salads and got a pitcher of sangria to share. It was PLENTY of food without the meat and it was all very tasty, so IMO you'd be fine with skipping the main course.

Not as fun, but possible. I like all the sauces they give you for the meats and I like the fun of everyone trying to rescue the piece of steak that falls off of your stick.

  • I would definitely recommend skipping the meat part.  It took forever to cook and we really didn't like the taste once it was done.  The cheese and chocolate were fun but the meat was just frustrating IMO.

That's what I do.  It's plenty of food, and I was never crazy impressed with the meat courses anyway.

  • i would plan on at least 2 hours to eat.... thats part of whats great about it! just a great, relaxing meal :-)

just doing a salad, cheese course and dessert is plenty of food... but if its a special date night, i would go all out and get the meat course, too :-) i love the teriaki beef and the shrimp, and all the great sauces and veggies you get with the full meal.

i think we usually go with the "coq au vain" cooking style- but any of them are good. for the cheese i like "wisconsin cheddar" have fun!!

  • We love the Melting Pot and go for our special occasions. I would say give yourself an hour to 2 just so you don't have to rush. We usually get the "coq au vin" cooking style, but sometimes we get the oil because my husband LOVES stuffing the mushrooms with the green goddess dip and then battering it in tempura batter before putting it in the oil. It really is yummy.

  • Yeah, the meat course has never been that impressive to me.  It's fine and it's good but it take a long time to cook one little piece of meat.  I dont have the patience!  I get the cheese, a salad and dessert.

  • we always used just the plain broth for meat- nothing fancy. hands down FAVORITE meat is the teryaki sirloin. soooooo good. the rest were fine, but nothing to write home about.  The cheese course is just apples and bread... it really depends if you like those 2 dipped in cheese. DH and i aren't the biggest fans of those combos. i would have been happier with just tortilla chips lol

Chocolate- we get the PB milk chocolate. ask for extra rice crispies. nom nom.

  • This sounds like fun. We need a new date night idea. How expensive is it for the whole meal?  I've never been there

It's about $45 per person without drinks.

  • I'd say at least two hours. But sometimes it's quicker. We share the vegetarian and while we occasionally talk about skipping the entree we always just eat a light lunch so we are super hungry. I love the green goddess sauce! In fact we tell the waitstaff to bring us each our own because we aren't good at sharing. Lol.

Since many of the styles are not veggie we get court bouillon. And we don't have to worry about cook times but we love seeing which wait staff will realize the lecture about raw foods really doesn't apply to veggies. My favorite was "okay the damn lawyers make me say this... Opps i hope you aren't a lawyer" (MH is but we thought it was awesome. Lol)

  • When I go I am usually there 2-3 hours.  I get the Big Night Out.  Cheese, Salad, Meat and Chocolate!  Enjoy!!!!

  • I like it there, but I'll only go with girlfriends, because it takes long and its more like an activity.  MH hated it there because he said that when he's hungry, he just wants to eat, not cook his food, lol.  For the meat courses, unless you get the oil, you are essentially boiling your meat.  The last two times I went, I also did that ladies night with the wine and there was no meat course.
  • We went twice a few years back, spent about 3 hours and $75pp ( inc. drinks and tip), I really enjoyed it, the mrs. Not so much
