Where should we look for quality LR furniture?

DH and I were considering some new furniture and would like to invest in quality.  We'd like to buy something and it last 10-15+ years.  I'm thinking this won't be an Ashley or Weekends Only purchase, but we really don't know where to look.

Re: Where should we look for quality LR furniture?

  • We like Phillips Furniture, on Manchester.  A few years ago we purchased a two toned rubberwood dining set.  I was pleased with the customer service and I'm still pleased with the set.  We went to Phillips a few weeks ago looking for a sofa table and compared to other places, I felt Phillips quality was higher and prices were better than Carolhouse or Ashley (although I'm not a big fan of Ashley anyway, I've seen too many dressers falling apart on the show floor).  I will be purchasing a table from Phillips, as well as future furniture pieces.  We also like the shopping experience, it's not too cluttered and items are showcased well.  9 years ago we purchased our end tables and coffee tables from Carolhouse, we still use them and they are still in good shape.  We shoped at the Carolhouse off Paige, although both locations probably carry the same items.  Good luck, I love shopping for furniture!
  • I'm a newbie and just thought that I'd check out the local pages first.

The most recent furniture that I've purchased was from Rothman's and (believe it or not) Value City Furniture.  I have had my couch and dining room set from Rothman for over 10 years and they still look great (despite a bit of cat hair lol).  I also purchased my "Arts and Crafts" office furniture from Value City several years back and they still look great too.

Keep in mind that if you pay cash, some stores will give you a discount (Rothman did).  Happy Shopping!!

  • We just bought new living room furniture from the JCPenney Homestore in South County. It seems to be good quality, but we've only had it about six months. I'd try Rothman's, too. They didn't have what we wanted, but my parents have had a living room chair from then for at least 8 years that still looks fantastic.

  • Thanks for the suggestions.
  • Drive Manchester from Ellisville east toward the city.  There are a ton of furniture places, Bova, Dau, some back behind the Hallmark store at 141, a Lazy Boy, Phillips, and more.
  • You should try to check out Good Works Furniture http://www.goodworksfurniture4u.com/ .. it's on Delmar. They have a lot of really nice stuff there at pretty good prices (in my opinion) and the quality seems higher than that of say, Weekends. We inherited a couch from my husband's sister and it's been great to us so far.
