? For the knitters

I just picked this up again since my mom was getting rid of yarn. Do they have things to put on your finger tips so they don't hurt as bad from the kneedlepoints?  Or am I doing wrong that I keep stabbing myself in the finger?

Re: ? For the knitters

  • I hope that you won't be offended, but honestly, if you are hurting yourself I think something is wrong.  Are you pulling your yarn super-tight?  Your knitting should be loose enough that you should not have to force your needles through the fabric (and not forcing the needles into your finger).

Another thought- are you using super-sharp needles or really small needles?  If you're just starting out it is easier if you use great big needles (like size US 13-15) until you're used to it.  I prefer wood or bamboo needles mostly because of the way they feel, and the ends are usually a bit less sharp.  Sometimes you can get a good deal looking for needles on ebay.

  • No offense taken, I'll take any tips I can!  I'm using size 6, just because that's what my mom had sitting around.  It's happening when I'm taking the stitch off the left hand needle, I'm using my right pointer finger to push the needle back through.  I've watched some youtube videos and see a few doing it too, but maybe there's an easier way.

  • I agree with the velocitygirl that it sounds like a tension issue. I had the same trouble when I first leaned to knit, but not anymore.

It will go away in time :)
