I need your help on ideas for what in the world I can offer my loving family and friends as a party favor and thankyou for sharing this tremendous blessing with us!

Any ideas! I cant wait to hear what cha got!

Re: Housewarming Party Favors: Suggestions Needed :)

  • I don't think favors are necessary. If you do give some sort of favor, make it edible or it's likely to get thrown away or shoved in a storage box.

    Congratulations on your new home!

  • Decorating for a house warming seems odd to me. You're not having a themed party, your showing off your home. I wouldn't decorate, but, instead, make sure everything is how you are choosing to decorate it for living, not a party. I also don't think favors are necessary, but, if you so choose, I also recommend edible, as anything else it simply a waste.
  • By decorating I'm refering directly to the food and dessert table that will be set up for the appitizers and drinks that Ill be serving for my guest to enjoy while they tour our home.

Edible is certainly the way Im going to go for the favors. I just would like a cute and creative way to say thanks going along with my bird theme and colors :)

Thanks so much for your input and advice!

  • Congratulations on your new home.  As the PPs mentioned, I don't think favors per se are required, but this might be fun (there are a several versions of these little nest cookies): http://allrecipes.com/recipe/jelly-bean-nests/

I'd have a few out to eat there and some wrapped up if someone would rather take one home for later.  I think to-go treats are nice. Sometimes I would just rather eat a it later.

    Decorate away!
    Sounds super cute.
I made these bird and birdhouse cookies for a shower.

    Here is the recipe.
The wing and eye on the bird are made with a edible pen by Americolor.

  • I saw a lot of little nests with robin egg blue favors (usually chocolate, but this one is soap) when I was planning my wedding, something like this:

Or this would be cute, it's a birdseed feeder that can be bought or easily DIY:

It sounds like you have a pretty good idea of your theme going, I would just keep my eyes peeled as Spring goodies start showing up in the stores.  A candy bar where guests could make their own goody bags to take home would be cute too.  Then candies in your themed colors could be displayed in pretty jars, vases, etc and add to the decor.

    Have fun & Congrats!

  • I cant tell you how much I love love love the idea of giving a heart shaped bird feeder to my guest to take home and hang on their trees! I have to think of a cute little poem to include in the packaging of them lol Thanks for the great ideas and web links :)

  • Welcome to the board :)  I hope you'll post pics after the party - it sounds like it'll be lovely.

In fair warning to you as a newbie, I'm anti-favor ;)  My usual favor spiel goes something like this:

I'm in the "no favors unless it's a child bday party" camp. You've already invited someone into your home, spent weeks planning, given them your hospitality, not to mention the actual money you've spent on invitations, flowers, food. The event itself is the gift to the guest.

I think that goes 10x more when you're the one who's just spent $X00,000 on a house.  You don't need to give someone anything - traditionally, in fact, they should be giving you a little something.

However, if you just feel an overwhelming need, a sugar cookie or a little nest would fit the bill.

  • I see your point, but since it's a housewarming party and most guests will probably bring a gift, and one of a much greater dollar amount, I think it would be a nice little "thank you" token.  But no, not necessary.

  • I can promise you that a heart shaped bird feeder would get tossed into either my "Goodwill Box" or the trash. I have no need or desire for something like that.

And with regard to all of the gifts that you anticipate receiving - I usually bring a bottle of wine. I don't expect or want a cheap favor as a thank you.
