smiles re: 529

I just got a statement from our NE 529 plan and in the past 3 months, we've had a 30% return on our investment.  It did not give me YTD numbers, but if I come across a statement, I'll pass that along.

  • Whoa!

You will have to give me some tips and tell me what you have it in.

  • Yeah, not bad for 3 months.  Our annual isn't quite as high, must have been a good stock market trend (I don't typically follow).  Once I get our annual statement, I'll give you some info.  We had one down year, but have been up every year after and we've had K in the NE plan for 2 years, she was 2 years in the VA plan.  B has been in the NE plan for almost 2 years.

I'm guessing we have some stuff in high risk because DH likes to put his money there.  I don't, so I'm sure we also have some low risk areas too. :)  I'm a stock market dummy, so I heavily rely on our FA to give me direction.

  • That is similar to what we have seen with our NE plan.  We have ours set up using the child's age so both are in the 0-5 age plan which I believe is the riskiest...then the next age bracket is less risky, etc.  From what our FA told us, following the age guidelines is that they recommend as they become less risky and more conservative as they get closer in age to actually needing the money.    And this is just based on my memory, can double check this!
  • I have them in the 0-5 range too.  K's is better than H's but I was putting $ in K's when everything was going to heck in 2008.
