Tips for flying with 1 year old

Okay, trip is 3 days away. I have flown with L before but she was in a seat. This time she will be on my lap. Any suggestions? I'm just trying to think of something I may be forgetting.

Re: Tips for flying with 1 year old

  • When we went on our cruise, D was a little over one.  She was supposed to be a "lap baby," but I do remember at one point Jameson was in my lap and Delilah was in the seat, but that's another matter.

We had plenty of snacks to keep the kids entertained.  We had games on our phones.  I bought new toys that they hadn't seen before, specifically this, which Delilah still loves.  I seriously considered Benedryl because the Dr had given me a dose one time before she would let me give her allergy meds, but I didn't get that desperate.  :-)  Make sure you let her run around before the flight!

  • Thanks, this is the one time I wish she was walking so she could burn some energy.
  • How long of a flight?  I'm assuming you're going to Denver (?) in which case it'll be no biggie.  I agree w/ Shannon though - LOTS of snacks.. particularly stuff you dont let her normally eat.  I brought fruit snacks, tootsie pops, things like that that take a while to eat.  Go to the dollar tree and buy a bunch of cheapo toys that she's never seen before, too.

  • going we go through st. L and have like a 20 minute layover, I'm hoping I can actually have a chance to use the bathroom and change her diaper. Coming home we go through denver and have about an hour so that will give me time to feed her dinner.

I'll check out the dollar store, targets dollar section was not age appropriate unfortunately.

  • I just flew with my kid. I kept a boob in her mouth and half the team saw because she kept throwing the blanket off that i was trying to keep modest with. The good news is that most of them were third stringers. (thanks to my h for that detail)
