WMA Crib/toddler bed ?'s

1 - Does your 2-3 yr old still need something to sleep with?  Nora still needs her FP Aquarium to fall asleep.. I was hoping once the batteries died the last time I could take it out of her crib, but she always asks me to "fix night-night!" and I'm a sucker.. plus it keeps her occupied for a little while in the morning so I guess I'm not in a rush to get rid of it.  Her crib will convert to a toddler bed and I can still use it, so it will be a while before I CAN'T use it..

2 - Which brings me to my 2nd question, how long can you use a 'toddler bed'? She won't really even be a toddler too much longer, so I'm thinking it might be pointless to bother with the 'toddler bed' and go right to the 'full bed' conversion.

  • I don't get the toddler bed thing.  I get it, if you are lacking space.  I'd rather spend money on a bed my kid will be sleeping in until they move out.  Abby went from a crib to full sized bed.  ( what her crib converted too).  Toddler beds are good for 2 years or so.

Abby only sleeps with some stuffed animals so I can't help you with the other question.

  • Mine goes up to 50lbs and I went with the toddler bed bc I don't really want to buy a new mattress right now and toddler bed uses the crib mattress.  Plus, it seemed like less of a huge transition.  So far, it's sucking and she asked for her crib back, lol.

If she likes the aquarium thing I'm not understanding why you'd need to get rid of it.

Can't help with the toddler bed thing because I'm pretty sure E will be in a crib till kindergarten. I haven't the slightest idea why I'd put him in a bed when he's fine in the crib. (He'll be 3 in like 10 days.)

  • 1. We still use the white noise machine and have no plans to stop. Our house is just too damn small and I refuse to stop living after she goes to bed.

    2. K is still in her crib and I plan to keep her there indefinitely. :) We bought the conversion kit to switch directly from the crib to a full-size bed. I totally understand why people switch to the toddler bed (no need to buy a new mattress, similar to the crib, etc.) but I want her going from a crib to a bed she'll be in until she leaves home.

  • We got a race car bed from a friend who was moving. It has been great...we didn't need a new mattress. We transitioned him at 18 months because we needed the crib for Beth. We liked the toddler bed since we could still use all the bedding we had for his crib and it was too daunting for us or for him....and me and my husband have slept in the race car bed with him ( obviously at different times lol)

this is what we'll do with the boys.  we didn't use the toddler bed with grace but it'll be easier than getting new beds for the boys.  i'm lazy.

as far as the night thing goes, grace had hers for a long time.  i'm pretty sure she was over 3 when we finally took it out.  my nephew was 5.  don't worry about it.

proof that i make babies. jack, grace, and ben, in no particular order

  • I'd go right Into a full bed. why spend the money if she can still get out in her own.

  • 1. No. My kids can fall asleep without anything. They DO all have a night light though.......

    2. I used E's toddler bed until this past Christmas - she is 4.5.

  • Teagan was in a toddler bed from 2 years 8 months until September at almost 4.5 years. Not only was the room small but I thought it would make the transition easier.

  • Ok thanks! I don't care that she still uses the aquarium, it just takes 4 C batteries and that gets $$ lol (I try to keep it on the least battery-sucking setting but she knows how to mess with it now).. and yeah we still use the white noise too. We're in an apartment and you can hear every little step, so it's not going anywhere for a while.  Space is an issue, so that's the only reason I would probably consider using the 'toddler bed' conversion.. But she can stay in the crib as long as she wants lol...

  • 1. All three of my kids still use their aquariums. It's soothing to them. I don't think it's a big deal.

     2. Their cribs convert to toddler beds so I plan on converting and using them until they grow out of them.  They are all still in cribs and I have no plans on converting any time soon.

  • I did forget to mention, we left "sleep sheep" behind a while ago in favor of some beautiful sleepy time CDs, so she goes to sleep with soothing music.  I like it too, lol.  It's a CD player and it plugs in.
