Speaking of car seats, I need to fit a 3rd for the dog
Does anyone have a dog car seat they can recommend that would fit inbetween 2 kids car seats? The console seats won't fit in my highlander, and then the last resort would be a seat that can go in the front passenger seat.
This is actually really important because it's really unsafe trying to get Herbie (yorkie) anyplace without one since he can not be on the seat by himself and it's difficult to drive with him on my lap.

Re: Speaking of car seats, I need to fit a 3rd for the dog
our dog is about 60 pounds, so bigger than a yorkie... but what we do is... we got him a harness that has a metal loop on the top of it. he sits in the cargo area of my RAV4 (not on the seat). basically, we have an old leash tied back there, and just clip that to the loop on his harness. hes not totally restrained, but it keeps him pretty confined.
what about a travel bag? my sister has a yorkie, and she just has one of those travel dog carriers for him. she zips him in there, and runs the seat belt through the handle of it. he's zipped into the carrier, so he can't go anywhere, and the seat belt keeps the carrier from sliding off the seat.
I really need a car seat. If I just put the seat belt through a loop (which he doesn't have one big enough on his harness) then he can go back and forth enough to be a problem if he's in the front seat, and in the back middle he could easily get knocked into the sides of the 2 car seats since they would be walls on either side of the 10-12 inch space.
He does not do travel bags. They freak him out and since he's 12, I'd feel bad trying to make him suffer through and get use to it.

they make special harnesses for the seatbelt- not just putting the belt through the regular harness... that's what we use for our dogs.
we used to have a "seat" for Veruca - got it at Pet Smart I think - just the regular seat that has a latch to hook on her collar... and was higher up so she could see out the window.
I have a Maltese and he would love to sit on my lap but it's so unsafe for him, me, the kids. I have this seat. The link shows you three sizes: I have the middle one, the L A Oversize Rider. The seatbelt buckles around the bottom of the seat and you cannot see it in the picture but there is a hook to keep him in the seat. I put his harness on him and attach the hook to the harness and not his collar. It works great because he can see out the window. Before we had Gia, I fit it between Sofia and Ava's carseats. Now. I either put up a seat in the third row if my husband is with us or it goes in the front passenger seat.
