teachers who work in public school....? for you

Our district is being monitored by the state but just for Special Education. Our school was picked as being one where they walk around and interview staff. I provide related services (speech).

Did anyone ever experience this before? I just want to know what kinds of questions they ask in general. I worked corporate before this, and while I feel i know most policies, etc. I really dont know what to expect. Any insight is appreciated.

TIA!

  • We had this happen in the district I previously worked in.  We had millions of meetings about what they were going to ask, etc. and it wasn't that bad.  They chose at random, and you never really saw them.  It was mostly about school policies and referral services that we provided the kids.  We had to have policy books on our desks for quick reference, and I remember the school making way bigger of a deal about it than it actually was.

100% THIS! It happened last year for our school and our district made it into a huge deal- we had to do all this prep work and then nothing came of it. They walked through, they spoke to a couple people at random, and it wasn't anything technical. I think the pressure was put more on administration, I'm sure they were asked more questions, but the teachers were all told all this stuff to be prepared for and it never happened.

  • I work in a special education school - we are not public, but we take kids from public school and the districts pay the tuition (we're run by a non-profit mental health agency), so we have to be monitored every few years.  Honestly, I've had people drop in and observe my classroom for a few minutes, but was never asked any direct questions. I believe the administrators did most of the talking and I know that they looked over records, lesson plans, IEPs and such.

  • Thanks everyone! I dont want to say or do the wrong thing. I hope it is no big deal..i know they already requested the files they want so I am safe in that regard. I think it is actually weird that they give notice...oh well... we have a good spec ed program overall but some paperwork may be off.

    Thanks!
