Weird or not weird?

If someone told you that their husband was reading part of a book to them each night, would you think that was weird?

Re: Weird or not weird?

  • Personally NMS, but I don't necessary think it's weird. I assume you mean that they're essentially reading the book together so he's reading it out loud?

  • I don't think it is weird, but that would never happen at our house.
Another old nestie with a new name.
  • In this case the book is one the reader has already read.

ok. I take it back. That's weird. Is there a reason for this? Can the person being read to not read or something? LOL

  • Weird and infantalizing. Thinking about it makes me super uncomfortable.

  • I was trying not to tip the scales by saying who it was originally, but it's my brother reading to his fully-literate wife. I just wanted some backup for my gut "WTF?" reaction. lol

  • What is he reading her?

  • I forget. It's one of his favorites. It might be Ender's Game? He was saying I should read it and then mentioned as an aside that he was reading it to his wife before bed each night.

I was actually considering suggesting that as one of the options for my book club month.

  • I don't think it's super weird but that's probably b/c DH and I have done this. We were reading The Walking Dead books together and he would read out loud.

  • My DH would haaate that. I find it kind of weird too.

The only time I've ever read out loud to another adult was once with an exBF when we were in the middle of a 12 hour drive. It worked ok but I'd much prefer just gettin an audio book.

  • I don't think it's weird. It's been a while, but I've read to DH at night before. It's a nice way to relax together. I could see reading a book I loved that I had already read. I've also read to him during long car rides, it makes time pass quickly. Since we are at the same point in the book at the same time, we talk about what's happening like we would a tv show. it's not like he sits on my lap and turns the page.

  • I think it's weird and DH would never go for it.

  • I don't know if DH and I would ever do that, but it doesn't strike me as weird.
