Clicky Poll: School Supplies
I'm not trying to start a pro-tax / no-tax / WTF-is-tax debate, but the current "tax holiday" discussion has me questioning a few things.
If you haven't read about it (article), basically the state would suspend their sales tax (2.9%) for a 3-day weekend in August. If you spend $100, that's basically saving you $2.90.
Included are all the 'basic' supplies like backpacks, paper, compass/protractor, but also clothes (no accessories), shoes, and computers under $1500. It also doesn't apply to just students & parents.
So...

Re: Clicky Poll: School Supplies
I would save more by continuing my shop-early method when different stores start putting out crazy sales - like 10 cent notebooks in July. That will save me much more than $3 on every $100. Plus, I try to avoid the school shopping crowds. It's madness.
....unless a store like JC Penney does their back to school jeans sale that weekend. Then I'm totally in.

I'd rather pay the $2.90 in taxes on school supplies, and not see more cuts in education. :P
Not that we spend anywhere near that for DD1. Plus, many of the supplies are communal things like kleenex, paper towels, etc. that I'd bet are not included in the tax holiday, and that actually make up the bulk of the money spent.
Plus, with my Target redcard, I get 5% off anyway -- that's more than the tax holiday and I get it year-round.
