What size bed does your kid have?
We'll be buying a new bed for Tracey soon so the crib can get moved into the other room. A large part of me wants to go with at least a full to have extra guest space in addition to our guest room, but even with her fairly large room I worry about it eating up space. I'm also considering getting a twin now and giving the twin to the newbie when he/she moves out of the crib and getting T a larger bed then.
I had a twin until I was in jr high and got a full.
What are people doing these days??
Re: What size bed does your kid have?
So Tasty, So Yummy
This what we plan on doing one day.
I had a twin until I moved to college.
Our intention was to give DS a full, but I think we'll do a twin for the same reason you mention - it will give more space in the room. Plus, my twin frame is in the attic so we'll just be buying a mattress.
A was in a Queen (because that's what was we already had) until we moved and then she got a full with a trundle.
C will likely move into the Queen that is already in his room when he's out of the crib and we will store the convertible crib and move it to a full bed if/when we ever get a house with an extra guest room.

Twin.
We have a guest room and I want her to have room to play comfortably in her room without feeling crowded.
If I had a concern over guest sleeping space I'd get a twin with a trundle that lifts up to form a king, and have one of those foam things to put over the top so it feels like one mattress under the fitted sheet and not two.

the toddler bed conversion did not go well with dd, so she went straight to a full. we had the same thought process as you - extra space for guests if needed. this has come in handy now that our guest room is in the midst of becoming ds' room.
its come in handy for guests and makes it easier to lay down with her to read or calm her down with nightmares. when she had the flu last spring we alternated sleeping with her because her fever was so high.
N has a twin right now. I'm sure when he's older we will get him a queen.
I had a queen at home through college but when i went to school (boarding) it was a twin and I had no problems.
We don't have an official play room or game room. All of her toys are downstairs floating around and I want to corral them into half of our front room (originally a formal living room, but now mostly an office) one of these days. I imagine when she gets a little older she will start playing more in her room.
Her room size is one of the nice things about this generation of houses. There were no game rooms, so the square footage stayed in the bedrooms! Her room is 14 x12.
I need to look into pop-up trundles because that would be a nicer sleep space for guests than a full.

I had a twin my whole life - even took it to college (after the twin in the dorm). It never occured to me to get anything bigger (aka - didn't have the money! lol).
DS has a full b/c we got the crib that converted. I like that it's large enough for us to sit in it to read books with him, but it's also big enough for us to sleep in, which probably allows us to do so more than we should.
DD will also have a full b/c we have the crib that converts.
I never had any matching furniture growing up - it was just a mish mash of stuff. In fact, my bed frame was the trundle bed from my sister's bed, so I didn't even have a "real" bed frame. We didn't have any furniture for DS or DD's room, so I took the opportunity to get nicer furniture set for them to keep forever (or at least until it's too beat up to use anymore!). Therefore, our set included the convertible crib.
ETA: If she has a fairly large room, the full doesn't really take up that much more space than a twin. Try taping it off in masking tape on the floor to get a feel for the space each will take.
Whenever we have guests, I don't necessarily think to kick DS out of his room, though, if that is your sole reason. I would rather him go to bed at normal time and not disturb him - so think about that, too.
We'll only need her room as an extra guest room if we have my parents and b/SIL or my parents and his dad, so it wouldn't happen much and I guess she'd just bunk with her sibling in that case. I pulled the tape measure out today and played around. I think a full wouldn't be too bad.
As for buying her a matching queen set--we don't even have one yet!!

Ya'll fancy. I had a twin bed till I was like 20.
Growing up only my spoiled friends with Barbie dream houses had full beds.
