I feel all giddy when I think about it...

The Maggie Sottero dress that I posted the other day...I can't stop thinking about it and when I do I get that butterflies in my stomach feeling.  I know that there are others out there and I've only looked one place, but I just love it.

Does this mean that it's THE dress? I NEED to justify the price somehow. LOL

Re: I feel all giddy when I think about it...

  • That probably means it's THE dress.  I know when I went I found one from Oleg Cassini I loved but was expensive.  So I went to a few other places until I realized that all I was doing there was trying to find one that looked like the one I loved.

So... I spent more than I wanted but I don't have to think about how I might have liked another better.  It's worth it.

  • It sounds like it. I'd keep looking just in case, but sounds like you've found it. How much is it again? Can you fudge your budget at all? Forfeit birthday and V-day gifts to get some extra dress $ ?
  • Have you tried to find it cheaper? Maybe you can find a sample. Try ebay!

  • I would consider it the dress....how long till the wedding?  I found a dress in a catalog that I LOVED.  But I didn't want to spend that much.  So I bought a cheaper dress that I thought I loved....but kept checking craigslist for the first dress.  I found it brand new for $200.  So I ended up with my fluttery dress two months before the wedding because I couldnt' get it out of my mind. :)

    THISSSSSS.

  • It was $899 and I would still need to get straps made and altered which would bring it over $1k.

I googled it to see if anyone had one for sale around my size and I couldn't find anything.  I know that I still have time.  I have plans to go to more places to look, so hopefully I can find it cheaper somewhere else or find something similar (although, looking online I haven't seen anything similar to it at all).

I also liked a couple of the others which I could probably find something that looks close to those at David's Bridal or a similar place for cheaper.  I liked this particular one though because it was different than any others I had seen.

I still have a while before the wedding. We actually don't have a date picked yet because we haven't picked out a venue yet.  We're hoping for September or October at the latest.  The woman at the bridal shop told me I need to order it about 5 mos prior to the wedding which means approximately April.

This is what I did. My gown was $1500 new, and I bought mine for under $400 with alterations because it was a store sample.  Holla.

You can also rent gowns at some places... the place I bought mine you can rent for $75 a day.  Knowing me and how punctual I am, I totally would've ended up spending more than $1500 if I went that route, lol.

  • Yes... it's most likely the dress.

Mine too! It was the first dress and when I saw it in the bag, I was like holy hell that is ugly. but I tried it anyway and loved it!

I almost didn't even pick it out to try on!  My mom handed it to me and said I should try it.  It was the first one I tried!

  • I can't relate because I never felt giddy over any dress I tried on. I did try on a similar dress to the Casablanca dress you posted and really liked it, but I couldn't justify spending $800 on it so I walked away.

I know I'm in the minority, but I was not willing to spend a ton of money for a dress. Have you thought about going to a local tailor and telling them what you would like in a dress to see how much they would charge to make one from scratch for you?

Also I'd keep looking online - like ebay, preownedweddingdresses, sellyourweddingdress and oncewed. It may pop up on any one of those sites or even on craigslist.

A $900 dress is definitley not in my budget and I hadn't planned on spending more than about $300 for a dress.  I didn't think that I wanted a traditional dress...but I was so wrong!

I haven't really done more than just check online.  I need to pick a weekend and go looking.  There's a bridal show the end of the month that I'm going to, so maybe I'll come across a bridal place that I didn't know about or something.

Thanks for posting those websites.  I never know which sites are legitimate for selling pre-owned dresses. I'm going to check them regularly. I have nothing against buying a pre-owned dress as long as it doesn't look like it was worn.

It's Maggie Sottero Carmella.  I've googled it so many times and come up with sizes that are nowhere near my size!  I've also noticed that on some of the pre-owned sites people are selling it for more than the bridal shop I went to is selling it for.

  • What about recycled bride? I found two listing, one for $450 and one for $600 obo. They might be willing to ship.

  • Here's one that starts at $250: http://www.okaydress.com/maggie-sottero-carmella-bridal-gown-2011-p-21852.html

I will say though that I'd wait a little while, since it's a 2011 design.

I had seen these two listings in my search, but I am plus sized and need probably somewhere around an 18-22.  The Casablanca that I had tried on was a 22 and it fit perfectly.  I hate that you have to size up about 2 sizes for wedding/bridesmaid dresses.

Take back soda cans, have a tag sale, bring some old clothes to a consignment shop.  This dress NEEDS to be on your azz the day you get married!

I think that might be one of those sites where you get a replica made in China.

The shop where I saw the dress has a 50% off sale on samples from 2011 right now (of course there wasn't anything I liked in my size)...this dress is not included and she said that they only do these sales once a year.  I'm going to have to check a few more places in my area.  I just haven't taken the time to do this yet.

Thank you!  It made me look thinner too, so bonus!  And I agree, I WILL wear that dress!  Although, I am open to looking elsewhere to see if I find something else that I love just as much. I guess you never know.

I'm debating doing the second job thing again...as much as I hated it.

I meant to ask you more about this when you mentioned this in my other thread.  Do you just tell them which dress it is, what size and they give you a price?  It's an actual shop and not an online store, right?

    PitaPata Dog tickers
  • I believe if you go to their web site it gives complete instructions...you must get measurements from a professional...they go by measurements not sizes...make sure you get good ones!

You give them style name as well...they will then email you a price...mine was 300 less then the stores (i got bms dresses for 100 less as well)

they are awesome and a lot of knot girls used them..i had NO issues at all...and got the dress a lot sooner then they said i would.

  • Mags...thanks.  I will definitely keep them in mind if I can't get it cheaper somewhere close to home.  Maybe I'll call this week just to see what they quote me.

I guess that goes to show you how much of a mark-up there is on those dresses if they can sell it that much cheaper than other places.

  • Ooooh, even more now that I've seen it...you so need this dress.  Get it!
