Baby mamas - bottles?

What bottles are you loving these days?  Bonus points if your baby also BFs!  DS was an avid bottle hater, so I intend to start way earlier and be more consistent with DD about introducing and keeping up some bottle feedings.  Any recs for what bottles to try or have on hand?

 TIA!

Re: Baby mamas - bottles?

  • DD ended up using the NUK bottles exclusively, but I know mama's who have had great luck with the Breastflow bottles as well. We lucked out, DD never had a problem with taking a bottle.

  • I BF till 8 months and used Born Free and DD loved them.  My sister could only get her BF son to take the Tommee Tippe ones and I've actually heard that from quite a few other BFing moms.

  • We use Dr Brown bottles and really like them (recommended by my friend who is a feeding therapist at Childrens). DD started with bottles at 2 weeks old (not recommended, I know, but we had no choice) and was even better at switching back and forth between breast and bottle than I could have hoped. I still never give her a bottle (DH or sitter does), because I notice a difference in her willingness to nurse when I do. Plus, the bottles fit the Medela pump parts!

  • dD has always been fine with the Gerber 1st essential bottles and slow flow nipples - we started with them around 3 weeks and have been using them ever since.  She's still BFing.
  • We have always used Dr Browns. I actually ordered some premie nipples from amazon and used those with Coop when he was a newborn.

But we didn't bf, so I didn't go back and forth or anything.

  • We used Dr. Brown's.  The are a PITA to wash, however helped DD out so much.  She had some stomach and indigestion issues for the first six months and they were a life saver.

  • We used avent with Lucy and they leaked.  We used Adiri with Lexi (my little bottle hater) and they were okay, but they don't sell them anymore.  We are using Nuk with Max and so far so good, but I honestly feel like whether they take the bottle easily or not is based on their personality.  Nuk work great though and don't leak so that's nice.

My dd also used the NUK bottles (and pacis).  We tried the breastflow ones at the beginning but they didn't work too well.

  • Another Dr. Brown's user. And since my supply was awful, we started with bottles almost immediately.
  • DD didn't really care what kind of bottles she used.  We used the Playtex ventaire with her.  DS HATED bottles and tried way too many of them.  The only one I could get him to use a little bit was the Breastflow.  He definitely preferred to nurse and I think this bottle replicated the same action as nursing that he was 1/2 way ok with it.

This about sounds like us - Dr. Brown's were great for us.

  • Dr Browns here. I also just ordered some playtex ventaire to try those out.
  • My favorites are the Avent bottles. Both my kids have been EBF (aside from solids) and DS nursed until 19 months. DD is still nursing well at almost 9 months. We also use Playtex Ventaire bottles. GL! I had used a Soothie one with DS that was great, too, but I don't know if they still sell them.

  • Playtex drop ins were wonderful for us.

  • DD and DS were BFers though for a short time.  I used Playtex Widemouth ventaire bottles and they worked awesome.  My sister recommended them and she was a long-time BFer (up to 2 years with each of her 3 kids) and those were the bottles she used.

  • We used Tommy Tippee early on when we had to supplement. He did great with them, not so much with the Avent. I'm EBF right now but plan to introduce the bottles back in a few weeks.

  • I'm BFing and C likes the Tommee Tippee bottles.  Have had no problems with switching back and forth at all.   He did hate their pacifiers though, and prefers the Avent ones.

  • We used Dr. Browns with DS.  At his 2 week appt, his pedi suggested that DH give him one bottle of pumped milk each day so that he would get used to bottles but still nurse from me.  Worked like a charm.

  • With DS we used just plain evenflo glass bottles and he took them like a champ and they are super simple to clean without any special parts.  But, eventually he refused to nurse to I decided to try something advertised as a bit more breastfeeding friendly this time.  We're using both Playtex drop-ins and Born Free glass.  I like glass bottles best and the drop-ins seem super wasteful and expensive over time, but we need bottles for our trip to Mexico and these are a lot simpler because I don't have to worry about figuring out how to wash them, so I want to make sure she'll take them.

  • We used playtex vent air and dr browns interchangeably. She seemed to like the surprise of which one she would get. Daycare used gerber ones.  I was an exclusive pumper

  • Avent worked for us!  She rarely needed a bottle but did fine with them when we needed to use them.
  • DD was a bottle hater too, even though we were consistent about giving her one daily from 4 weeks on. We ended up using Nuk bottles because those were the pacifiers she would take.
