If your child has had tubes put in, what brought you to the decision to do it? In other words, what factors influenced your decision and how helpful was your doctor in coming to the decision. Are you happy you did/didn't do it? Our doctor gave us a few options and we are struggling with what to do, so I am just curious to know some other situations/outcomes. Thanks!
Re: Ear Tubes
grayson suffered MANY ear infections... i kept thinking they'd go away- the way they did for Griffin after his first year.... but they didn't... .and he suffered hearing loss during the months he was developing language - which gave him a severe delay (he's in therapy for it now).
My biggest regret as a parent is not getting him tubes sooner... it could have solved so many problems (all the sick days I had to take, all the days he was miserable with EI's, all the months of hearing he missed, et)
it's the EASIEST and fastest surgery - the doc was out in the waiting room telling me how it went about 6 minutes after I left... not kidding. I can't believe I waited so long.
He was so much happier when we were home (less than an hour after his surgery)... he could HEAR! and knock on wood- he hasn't had an EI since (it's been almost a year).
My DS had six ear infections in less then a year. His last one the fever was at 104.... That combined with constant antibiotics and the toll those played on DS stomach was more then convincing!
Super short surgery and no ear infections in the two months since we had it done - knock on wood!!
Wyatt started daycare 2/1/11. He went 6 times (3 days a week) and by the 3rd week he was the sickest he'd ever been in his life. The double ear infection never went away. Still, in May there was fluid behind his ear and it just would not drain. He was miserable, we were miserable and it just had to happen. We saw Dr. Jason Surrow @ ENT Allergy associates in Oradell and he along with our Peds office suggested tubes.
It was a VERY hard thing for us to decide but ultimately it was the best decision ever. He has not been sick once since then other than passing sniffles. The procedure was so quick, less than 20 minutes. He was a mess in recovery and on the way home but by the afternoon he was back to his normal self. I was shocked at how easy it all way and I'm so happy we did it.
Good Luck
Bella had constant ear infections in a 3 month period.
The tube surgery was about 10 min and I think more worry for me than anything. It was fine, I was a wreck...lol
I think it was worth it.
My son had so many ear infections. He was also falling alot since his equilibrium was always off from the fluid in his ears. He also wasn't hearing from the fluid.
I regret not doing it sooner. It is the easiest and fastest surgery ever. Now he is talking up a storm and has been so much better. It is like night and day.
