Baby Monitors Poll (non-clicky)

How long did you use a baby monitor with your kid(s)? I'm not considering yet it as I still like to hear what's going on in there when she's supposed to be sleeping, but I don't find I use it as much as when she was really little.

Plus, our house is small so I can pretty much hear everything without a monitor anyway.

Re: Baby Monitors Poll (non-clicky)

  • We were just talking about this because Dr Sissy now has tiny baby Gia's room on one channel, and Vaughny, who is over 2 years old, on the other channel of her monitor.

Granted, they spend a lot of time in the basement and Vaughn is way up on the top floor - he totally knows he can talk to mom and dad through the camera.

I am fairly obsessed with watching Coop on the monitor, I can't imagine I will stop using it for quite some time to come.

  • DD is 19 months and I still use it Embarrassed. She isn't even close to sleeping through the night, though. . . and I like seeing her sweet little face on the screen.

  • We moved when J was 16 months and at our new house our monitor had all sorts of  interception.  That forced me to not use it so much, although we did get another one.  I think I gave it up 100% when M was two- he was in a toddler bed so I knew if he needed me, he could get out and come get me.
  • Our house was tiny with all the living and rooms on the same level (<1000 sq ft) so I didn't use one.  One sister used hers for about 6 months only and then not much after that and my other sister still uses hers for her 3 1/2 year old son.

Are you united with the CCOKCs?

  • I still use it. In fact with us moving to a bigger place soon I'm thinking I need to buy a newer one with more receivers since ours tends to act up a lot now.
  • I used ours with DD until she was probably 3 or so.    There was a time that it didn't provide much benefit, but having a video monitor was extremely helpful when she transitioned to a bed out of the crib and also when she potty trained at night.  I could hear her getting up to go potty and be listening to make sure she didn't need anything.

  • I still use a monitor while DS naps or when I first put him down at night because his room is upstairs and in the back of the house so I cant hear him when he wakes up (and I trap him in his room with a baby gate).

  • I stopped for a while, but started using it again a while ago. Mostly because DD sings and talks to herself in to her room all the time, and I like to eavesdrop :)

  • We have a video monitor and I use it a lot for both kids.  I don't use it at night because I can hear the kids if they wake up, but I like to see if they're sleeping or what's going on.  I think I'm just nosy.

  • I still have one in DD's room.  It's been a big help lately with her cold as her throat is sore so she can't yell to us and isn't feeling up to coming to get us.

  • DH used to joke that I'd be watching them via video monitor after they went away to college.

I used it until they were 3 and 4.  I just liked knowing when they actually FELL asleep - not just when I put them to bed.  It helped me with sleep stuff - I'd push a nap up if they'd not gone to sleep well the night before to head off the grumpies at the path.  I turned it off once they were asleep but would sometimes turn it on again in the AM if I was getting ready for work and wanted to know when they were stirring so I could finish up and be ready for them.

    Now?

I STILL use it.  The video monitor is in our basement play room.  I flick it on when they're down there without me.  That way I can head down to play referee before the blood shed starts.  (just kidding... but it does help to know when things are heading south so I can call one of them up to help me cook or something to give them a break from each other).

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • I use a sound only monitor for my 3 year old in the evening when we are in the basement (where our tv is) and he is all the way upstairs sleeping.  I turn it off when we come upstairs.  I have a video monitor for my 16 month old and I might use it forever because I just love being able to see him.  I am surprised I never bought one for my oder son because I can't live without it.
  • I'm embarrassed to say I still use it with my DS who turned 4 yesterday.  I like being able to hear when he's coughing in there when he's sick etc.  When we move DD to her room, I don't think I'll be able to help myself - I think I'll need a video monitor.
  • We used it one time.  We went next door to a neighbor Halloween party.  Other than that we never used it.  I never had a problem hearing my kids.  I found that the monitor actually prevented me from getting a decent night sleep.
  • we didnt use ours until molly was 15 months old (we co-slept until then) and now I use it CONSTANTLY.  We have the video monitor and it gives me much relief to see her in her crib. I joked with husband over the weekend that I planned to use video monitor until she moved out of the house becuase i like being able to see her sleeping and knowing she is ok.

her room is down the hall, and unless she is REALLY crying hard we can't hear her.

After 2 years of IF, and moving forward with adoption we were thrilled to discover we were pregnant with no intervention in 2009. Miss Molly joined our family in February 2010 and we could not be more in love with our little angel. Lilypie Second Birthday tickers blog www.grumpysnickles.com
  • 11 months or so?

I only use it now if I'm going to upstairs where I can't hear her.

A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.
  • We only turn it on if we're in the basement in the evening.  They scream plenty loud to wake us one room over at night :p
  • We used the monitor in their rooms till a new baby came along, so 3 with lucy and 2.5 with lexi. Mi imagine it will be the same time with max.

Eta: we spend our evenings in the basements, kids are on second level so it helps to hear problems before it gets bad.

  • Never used one with any of my girls.
