Anyone have a "menu board" type system?

I'm seeing some cute menu board ideas on pinterest...

while i don't see myself making some huge thing (since i don't cook much... but want to do it more)... I would like to make a system.

thinking of color coding index cards for main ingredient- ie) yellow=chicken, blue = beef, etc... and putting some recipes i know the kids like on them... having some sort of system to pick them out and shop with for the ingredients, etc.

WDYD that works for your family?

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • I get most of my ideas online so I just save them to my Favorites - delete the ones we don't like and file the stuff we do in categories (side dish, main dish, etc).

  • I searched menu boards on pinterest and I like the one with the glass and frame and dry erase marker.  Just listing what's for dinner each nite.  I like that it's simple & can match your decor.  The others seem too much to me, especially since I'm the only one who really needs the recipe.
  • I use pepperplate on my iPhone and iPad. So convenient and I love having everything in one place. I use the shopping list feature to keep a running list and add households in addition to recipe items I need.

  • No, although I have a couple of those pinned as well.. I don't think I'll ever get organized with my recipes enough for that. I do have a pad from Michaels only fridge.. On the left it has the days of the week and space to write your 'menu' for the week and your shopping list on the right. That has worked really well for me

I made one of these and it's great. Helps with shopping and lets mh know what is forbdinnerbso he knows what to eat for lunch.

  • We do something that would never make it on pinterest... :) We just have a dry erase board that has a magnet on it, and stuck to the fridge. We write the days of the week, and then what's for dinner those nights. The shopping list is a magnet pad just below that, so I can jot down what we might need.... honestly though, we're not as organized as we should be with all this. But, even just having the board up - and using it - is a huge improvement over coming home at 5:45 and looking at each other and saying, "ok what's for dinner" (at 6:00).
  • We have a freaking ridiculous excel spreadsheet we print on paper. We put not only dinner but also lunches for the kids on there. And because we don't always eat dinner together and MH is vegetarian we often have two dinners listed.

I like the dry erase board on pinterest though.

  • I bought something at ACMoore in the dollar aisle that I love!!  It's just the days of the week on one side and a place to jot down groceries on the other side, and it was a dollar and it sticks to the refrigerator.

  • I bought a weekly dry erase board at Target and that's what I use. I meal plan so I know what we're having each day of the week anyway.
