DD was diagnosed with bronchitis... Last night she went up to 104 so took her to the doctor and have been piggy backing motrin and Tylenol .
Tonight gave her antibiotic right before Tylenol dose. She vomited right after Tylenol everything (down my shirt) but then spiked at 105.1.
We called the doctor and told us to give her 1 ml every 10-15 minutes until she reacher her dose of 7 ml.
She seems to be doing better but DH and I thought 105.1 was super high are we crazy for thinking hospital earlier?
Re: School me on fevers
The act of throwing up may have increased her already high temp. If it stayed that way then yes, I would of been on my way. If getting the medicine into her slowly but surely is helping then that is probably the best for her instead of being in an emergency room.
Hope she feels better!
Depends on how she's acting more than anything else. G has been hospitalized twice for high fever and we've seen as high as 107. What we've learned is if they're laying around like a wet noodle, not eating, drinking or peeing, then it's a problem.
I hope she feels better & her fever comes down.
She definetly came down... Never though I would be happy with 102.4 in my life!
She is Babi to semi-normal and asking questions and answering us - way less scary!
Now crossing my fingers she stays below 103 for the night!!
Thanks for letting me know this was ok... Definitely scary!
anything over 104 my pedi has me bring them into the hospital (if it's off hours)... just to be sure. The one time i had to bring gray - who was 104.1 even after a dose of advil, the ER docs said b/c he was acting normal and happy it wasn't anything to be worried about. If he was super lethargic, like a wet noodle (as said above) that is when they worry with high fever.
K had a 105 fever and we went straight to the ER. She was lethargic, clingy and not herself at all. She was diagnosed with RSV. It was scary (high fevers freak me out because of the potential for seizures), but she responded to the Motrin, so that was good. She was so hot I was sweating holding her.
I'm glad your daughter is responding to meds. Keep an eye on her overnight because fevers are always higher at night.
I was shocked the doctor did not have us take her in to be honest. I teach first aid and CPR so seizures at that temp are always on my mind, heck I was scared last night at 103.5 but 105 was a million times worse!
But for now, since she responded so well to the motrin in small doses I am grateful we did not have to go... But tonight scares the crap out of me. We plan on waking her every three hours to piggy back Motrin and Tylenol - crossing my fingers it works and that she can keep her antibiotics down tomorrow.
