how to create videos - dummies version please!

I have NO clue how to create a video set to music but that's what I want to do with pictures from my son's first year of life.  Can anyone offer some suggestions? I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop* that has Windows Live Movie Maker.  I started playing around with that but it seems like I can't set the speed of the pictures to the speed of the song (Blink by Revive), which is an effect I really want to implement.

Any suggestions on other programs or anything at all that would get me started would be much appreciated.

 (*I knew I should've sprung for a Mac.)

 TIA!

  • I like using Windows Movie Maker, never had any problems.  So you want the photos to change with the beat of the song?  There is definitely a setting for how many seconds on each photo, you'd have to play around with it to get it right.

I think you can click and drag on the sides of each photo in the timeline and lengthen/shorten how long they appear. Or there should be a default setting for all photos under Options.
