Hump day vents go here

I despise renting.  Our landlord changed her mind about allowing us to have a 2nd dog.  We had the home visit scheduled and everything, and now have to back out.  It blows.  Also, we had considered renting a family member's house (he's in the military and stationed elsewhere right now), but they decided they don't want us to do that either.  It would have been hundreds of dollars cheaper and we could have fostered, gotten a second dog, anything we wanted.  The house we are currently renting is for sale; the owners would like us to buy it but we're not ready to do that yet.  If it does sell, we don't know what we'll do because there are VERY limited rental options in our podunk town and I just can't bring myself to live with DH's parents again.  Arggghh.

Re: Hump day vents go here

  • Renting is the worst.  It really stinks that your's won't let you get a second dog.  :(  Our landlord has blamed us for an earthquake and has threatened to sue us because he forgot what date the lease ended and couldn't find his copy of it.

  • Wow, I'm whiny this morning.  We have really good landlords, it just sucks not to be able to control your own living situation in some ways.  Sigh.
  • Good lord I do not envy you ladies your rental situations! It makes me happier than ever to suck it up and deal with the responsibilities of owning our place. I'm sorry you both have to deal with total crap landlords!

My vent is that H left at like 1 a.m. last night to drive to a teeny little rural town nearly 3 hours away for work. His company set up a small office up there (to get more work, I guess), but they can't get anyone who wants to work full-time up there (I know I don't want to move there!), so H and this other guy who are familiar with the area (through family and friends), are swapping off chunks of time up there. The crew works 6 days a week, so they're going to do 3 days each on and then off. It's kinda confusing to explain here. ANYWHO, I'm venting because I hate when he goes away for work. I hate going home and him not being there, and having to do EVERYTHING for myself and the animals. And it means relying more on my dad's time to come let Zoey out during the day, because no way can she or should she be crated for the 11 hours a day that I'm gone. :(

  • I agree with LuckyAngel, I do not miss renting one bit! Sorry for your woes, ladies.

I can also relate to the traveling for work concern, Lucky! DH travels a lot and most of the time it's only a few days here and there there are times that are weeks at a time (he's working the Olympics this summer and will be gone for a full month!) and it's hard. When he's gone for extended periods I feel like it takes us forever to adjust and get back to being comfortable cohabiting again. It's really only a matter of a few days, but it's still an uncomfortable feeling. I teach on evenings during the spring and fall at a university and leave straight from my day job to go there so I need to rely on him to feed the cat in the evening. If he's away, Sherlock goes over 15 hours without food sometimes, which I feel awful about. This was luckily only 4 or 5 times the end of the fall semester. Hopefully I can work something out to minimize the amount of time this has to happen this spring.

My vent today is that I don't feel well and I am low on sick time so I need to suck it up and get work done!

  • I am sorry it is sucking right now!  I am bummed you can't adopt another pup right now especially since you got so far in the application process!

     My vent:

I don't know why online instructors require so much more time than a regular on campus class.  They want me to volunteer at least a day a week in addition to my course load.  It looks like I will have to drop that class.  I have a full time job, full time school, three dogs, and a family.  I just don't see a way to do it.

Second vent:  I have spent over $2000.00 on my car in three weeks.  If I could just catch a break with it I would be a happy woman.

Also, I think it is dumb that there are different sized refridgerators.  I bought one and it was 3 inches too wide lol.  Buyers fault but I totally am going to blame the companies because it makes me feel better.

  • I hate renting.  Our landlord is okay, it's our neighbors I can't stand.  They are all very loud and annoying at all hours of the night and day.  That is why I didn't feel bad the other night when I was up until the early morning hours doing house work, making all kinds of noise.

My vent is that I'm tired of MIL making DH the middle man between her and BIL.  DH refuses, but the fact that she keeps trying is what drives me crazy.  If she wants BIL to do something, she calls DH and asks him to ask BIL to do it.  Um, no, we both work full time and different schedules than BIL.  You're retired and can call him whenever you want.  Also, some of your requests are completely unreasonable, and in that case we're not going to let you make DH look like and idiot.

  • I'm a landlord who is also an animal lover, but the tenants we have now make us want to avoid renting to people with dogs in the future. They have 3 dogs and their house smells like dirty dog and pee. I've suggested enzymatic cleaners, given them tips on crate training and keeping their dogs clean, but that awful smell will not go away... we're going to have to paint everything and replace the flooring and carpet completely when they move out. Maybe we should have a one dog limit, but then again I know the kind of damage only one dog can do without a responsible owner.., or perhaps we could come up with some kind of screening process.

I see both sides of the situation, so it's tough :/

My confession is that I'm a little apprehensive about going to the foster orientation this evening. On the foster info page it says that they require the other dogs in the household to be fully vaccinated, which goes against everything I believe in... if the foster dog is fully vaccinated, what does it matter what my dog may or may not have? My dog had all his puppy shots along with some others before he turned one, so I believe he's set for life. I'm not sure what to do if they won't let me foster... I want to do what I think is best for my dog, but I also really want to foster this new dog and get him adopted out.

I feel you 100%.  We finally found someone to rent our old apartment and now our landlord is saying she maybe doesn't want to allow dogs anymore.  There is one person interested and I do not want to be paying rent and mortgage for another two months.  I'm also very nervous about getting our security deposit back b.c. she is notoriously shady that way.

I'm kind of stressed b.c. I might need to make a decision for Eddie and I'm worried over what is best for him.

And my vent is that I am totally swamped at work (nesting while I eat my sandwich) and people keep calling and asking for an immediate answer.  I can only work so fast and when you call me over and over it interrupts what I'm doing and makes it take longer.

Oh and my added vent:  people's misconceptions of domestic violence piss me off.  You cannot make someone leave who isn't ready to leave, no matter how dangerous you know the situation to be.  It doesn't make them stupid and judging them does nothing to resolve the actual problem.

Are you up for renewal or is the dog not written into the lease?  I don't understand how you landlord could just decide she doesn't want you to be able to have a dog anymore in the middle of a lease.  Just reading about that situation makes my stomach turn!

We bought a house and are trying to find someone to take over our lease, they have a dog.

Oh, that sucks.  I've never subleased, but that sounds like a real pain.  I hope your landlord decides to allow the dog!
