Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

Would you call the hiring manager to check on status?

I recently applied for a job at a major university and because I have an "friend" (not someone close to me--couldn't ask for a refernce) who works there, I was able to get access to the staff directory and find out who the hiring manager was.
I applied for the job both via the HR website as well as emailed the hiring manager directly. It's been about 2 weeks and according to HR, they have just started interviewing for the position.
Do you think it's ok to call the hiring manager (Executive Director of the department) and inquire about my status or is this putting someone in a weird position?
