Thanks for helping me out so much when we first got our awesome puppy. Lucy the Corgi Wonder-Mutt is all healthy and doing awesome! She is crate trained, housebroken, has learned "sit" "paw" "down" and "crawl." She also knows "get in the other room" while we eat dinner together. I love this dog!
Anyway, we had a medium sized airplane style crate from our poodle, so that is what we used for Lucy. She fit in it fine, but I can't tell if she will need to graduate to a larger one soon. She usually walks in, and flops down and her little rump hangs out the door a tiny bit. But when she is ready to really sleep, she curls up and is fine. Obviously she isn't too tall for the crate, but I am wondering if she is too long (or will be?) She is only 4 months old now. She weighs almost 14 pounds, and is about 26 inches long. If we should get a larger crate, any recommendations? Thanks!
Re: Corgi Peeps! Crate Question
Is her butt hanging out because she's too tired to go all the way in? Mine does that.
But, they should fit with their body straight. It might seem large, but corgis have quite long bodies, almost like a big dog but with short legs. They should be able to straighten their bodies, think how you feel when someone steals your legroom in bed and you feel stuck curled up.
You can get the big crate now and put a box or barrier to make it smaller while she grows. If she is a mutt, though, be careful because you might not know just how big she will get...
Ditto corgilove. Our corgis have fairly large crates considering their height--but needed a longer one due to their frames!
Both of mine have a crate that is about 32 by 20. People have commented about how big they are--but they really couldn't turn around or stretch out in anything smaller.
Hope that helps!
