Roomba ?

I know someone was asking about this the other day.  Now I am really interested as I am constantly vacuuming up pet hair tumbles.  I guess I am looking for recs for which one to get and also wondering about having to pick things up off the floor prior to letting it run. Our living room is also a play area and has many larger toys...would I need to move them all? Also, what happens when it gets to the dining room table? Should I move the chairs away so it can get under there, will it? I guess I am having a hard time figuring how well it will clean and if it is worth it...sorry rambling over-tired mom...

Re: Roomba ?

  • I loved mine. Note the past tense there...

I have the 560 or something like that. It was great at first. I did move larger toys to the couch while it ran and that was fine. it fit under most my furniture but the coffee table/ottoman in the LR had to be lifted (I put tiles under the legs when it ran) and it got suck under some furniture.

But about 1.5 years after I got it, it started going in circles endlessly. I did everything they suggested to fix it and then gave up and called iRobot. The warranty is 1 year. All other vaccuums I have found are far more than that and this is one expensive vacuum. The best they'd do is offer to sell me a refurbished model with no battery, etc for a "discount". I use discount loosely because it wasn't much cheaper than a brand new one with all the parts.

I ended up taking the darn thing apart and soldering a part on to fix it but it's still not 100%.

And so I bought a Shark. It's cheaper than a new roomba and it's not that much more work to do. Occassionally I'll let the Roomba run I suppose.

Honestly I'm very disappointed. It was nice to have a vacuum that cleaned while I was at work, but it isn't worth the cost. For that price they need to warranty for a lot longer than 12 months.

  • It was me that posted about it, and I'm pretty happy with it.  I work from home and our house is on the market, so I try and run it daily so just in case someone wants to see the house, it's vacuumed or on its way to being vacuumed.  I'm surprised at how good of a job it did.

It does get caught on things (got caught under my bed) so I had to kind of keep an eye on it and every once in a while help it.   I have the 530 version I think, and I used a Bed Bath 20% off coupon and it worked.
