We've hit the distracted stage of nursing. So much harder this time.

I remember when Teagan became distracted by everything and it became tougher to nurse her.  The solution was to go to a quiet room and tell DH to come in quietly.  Now if Teagan is home, I spend so much time trying to feed Cora since she is distracted by Teagan stomping around the house and constantly coming up to kiss and touch her.  I feel bad that I'm telling Teagan to go someplace else if DH is home and to leave her alone while I'm feeding her, but what else can I do? Teagan is so in her face, it's ridiculous sometimes.

  • Oh this phase is so tough!  I would tell my daughter that this is special alone time with the baby.  She gets her special alone time with mommy when baby is sleeping and baby gets speacial alone time with mommy when he's nursing.
  • Sometimes nursing in a dark room helps.  But, I feel ya.  My little one is quite the contortionist these days.

ETA: Do you give Tegan a special toy that she can only play with when nursing?  That way nursing is a special time for her too.

  • This is when m got to watch some new DVDs by himself. His reward for letting me get s fed and down for bed was getting to play games alone with me until bedtime.
  • I wish the leappad worked better, because that was something I thought would help, however when she's playing with it and I'm nursing she needs to be next to me.  She really loves her little sister, and will stop doing almost anything to give her a hug and a kiss. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy our biggest problem is how much Teagan loves her and wants to be near her, but I need the baby to eat during the day.

Maybe later today I'll stash some things in the bedroom where I nurse that she needs to do with her lapdesk, that way she can't hop up and move easily, lol.

  • Does she play with legos? That is a "only when your brother is not around" toy and is great for when I need him to lay off the baby a bit.
  • can you put her on the couch next to you and turn a tv show on with the volume low?
  • and it will only get worse with Cora!

Bryce is crazy distracted too, so I feel your pain.

  • I feel your pain!  DD has been distracted for the last 6 months and it's so frustrating!  I'm not contending with an older sibling- just a dog who happens to start barking the second my milk lets down so she pulls off and milk sprays everywhere! Ugh!  I have no idea how I will nurse baby #2!
