Canadian Music

Who are your favorite canadian musicians????

Mine has always been Raine Maida - the frontman of Our Lady Peace. Not only because our lady peace is amazing (which i think they are...they came out with an awesome new album in 2010). But he is active in social change, an active supporter of War Child Canada and has often been seen busking for various social causes as well as a new olp song was recorded during the Occupy Movement to show thier support.

Heres a recent clip from Strombo interviewing Raine Maida.

Re: Canadian Music

  • I Love Raine Maida! In hs I went to every OLP concert possible. I even met him once (if by meet you read stalked him) at Wonderland once, before it was known that he was dating Chantal Kreviazuk. We went to see Chantal perform with Melanie Doan and there was a guy standing off by the fence beside the stage. I kept looking at him and than said to a friend, I think that's Raine Maida. It was and it was awesome. He gave my friends bro the wink and the gun! We were very excited.

I currently love so many, I don't think I can name just one. I have always been in love with Canadian Music. There is just soo many talented artists.

  • awesome im jealous. I've been to every show i possibly can (with the exception of when i was living out of country), and got to talk to Chantal about her time in africa the day after she came back...highlight of my life...at a Raine Maida VIP show when he released his first solo album....being 3 feet away from Raine Maida and talking to his wife was pretty surreal. I think when the show started i just stood there like an idiot going....im nearly close enough to touch him!

ANd totally agreed, Canadian Music to me has always represented so much talent...because to be a musician and canadian (with the exception of bieber), you have to be uber talented to get anywhere, we dont have the benefit of the big labels scouting, you have to actually prove yourself before you get signed in canada and i think that for the most part that has pushed canadian music to a bit higher standard.

  • Haha now I am jealous! I would love to meet her!!!

I had never really thought about how much my music tastes tend to lean toward Canadian Music, until we were posting on another board about concerts we had been to and our fav music in hs. Half of the bands or artists I had mentioned no one had heard of. Another Canadian commented, how I must be Canadian with a list like that.

  • I think OLP has a new album coming out, or at least a new music video. Apparently they were recently filming in my cousin's town.

I defend Bieber because although I don't like his music, he has a lot of talent. I have several nieces who love him and so I've seen parts of his movie, the kid has talent. I don't like his songs but his voice is good. He did prove himself and he did work hard. He got to where he is pretty quickly by some standards but he worked to get there.

  • OLP released the release date of thier new album CURVE and thier tour dates! I am so stoked...a new album AND a show in april...I've died and gone to heaven!
