year two of no raise, no cola, no bonus...
I KNOW I should not complain bc at least I have a job. That's the sad, sad state of things---moving from low but still somewhat okay compensation to barely scrape by and juggle bills and pray something doesn't break but "don't complain b/c you have a job." Didn't get a law degree eons ago to live this way. Ugh. Sorry for the pity party. Discourage anyone and everyone you know from ever becoming a lawyer. Just about every profession I can think of is faring better.
Re: year two of no raise, no cola, no bonus...
I feel your pain. I'm going on year FIVE of no raise, no COLI, nothing. It's very difficult when almost everyone else I know is at least getting a COLI. I'm making less today then I was when I took this job 5 years ago. It sucks.
I'm sorry! I hope you can find something new soon (if you're looking).
hey, i feel for you.
my company just announced layoffs... 700 of us are getting let go tomorrow- i find out by 11am... it sucks.
but i know how bad it sucks from all ends- it's all relative....and hard to stay positive when you get the shaft so often.
My husband is an attorney - i always laugh when people make comments like "oh, your husband is an attorney... he makes good money"... sure, he does OK- but NOT what people think - and this is after 20 years of being in the work force... he is nowhere near what people think. Few lawyers make what people think, sadly.
Hey I hear you loud and clear! It does suck!! I get a small raise every year on my anniversary date but it pretty much covers the increase in my medical insurance premiums that come out of my check. So if we go by that then I have not had a raise in about 3 years. And I have also absorbed the jobs of 2 people since that time that left/transferred out and no replacement was hired.

that sucks
it sounds like you guys held off awhile if it's just year 2 of no raises or bonuses. with DH's company it happened 4 or 5 years ago. the "little guys" are now getting raises and SMALL bonuses again, but the shareholders haven't seen anything (and many are on reduced work schedules without pay now) for the last 5-7 years. it just sucks, hoping it improves for everyone soon!
Sorry to hear this. I know how it feels too- my husband was unemployed and finally got a new job, but for no more than he made before and he hasn't gotten a bonus or raise in 4 years. In addition, the health insurance coverage is much more expensive.
Oh, and add teachers to the job you should tell people never to go into. The demands and paperwork and bureaucracy involved with teaching are preventing the good teachers from doing their job. It is disenchanting right now.

Try 5 years of no raise or COLA, with increased mandatory contribution amounts and increased cost of health benefit premium - so I make less now than I did 5 years ago.
The "lucky to have a job" thing is BS anyway - MH was out of work for 8 months, was "lucky" to get a job but was so underemployed that he may as well have just stayed on unemployment so he could be home with Alexis as opposed to paying DC. Basically the difference between unemployment and his net salary ended up being daycare. It sucks. A lot of us are int he same boat.
