Would this be rude of me?

I'm possibly going to my niece's music recital at school. She plays violin and she's 12.

However, I would need to sit through the other grades before she goes on. I think her group is the last. If I'm in the back, please tell me it will be ok to bring my kindle? Or, tell me I'm rude to all the other people I don't care to see.

Re: Would this be rude of me?

  • Hmm...I would assume it will be dark in there and the light from your ereader might light up that whole area and disturb the other people trying to watch.  Plus, the kids might see that you are doing something and it might make them feel bad.
  • I'd bring my iphone and read that so it's less conspicuous.

    True..

you could show up late? So long as you're there in the end with flowers, that's all that matters.

  • I have to vote rude.
  • Thanks. I was thinking it probably would have been, but was secretly hoping for some justification.

BUT - is it not rude for the parents of the previous groups to leave before all have performed? I had to sit through their child's clusterfvck of notes.

  • I would think it's rude. Can you just show up late? Or take your Kindle into the hallway?

  • I have to agree with what Ang said about the light since it will probably be dark.

  • I put my parents through concert after concert for 12 years!  The poor things!

I'd think both would be rude. Don't go at all if you don't want to.

  • I want to go, but just to see her. They live 15 minutes from where I work, so it makes sense for me to go with them as opposed to driving 30 minutes home, then 45 back to their town.

Augh - edited to add. Who am I kidding. I don't want to go, but I feel obligated to go.

  • Can you drive there from work? Say you have to stay late then show up around the time she would go on stage?

It doesn't start until 7 and I get out of work at 4:30.

I'm doomed to listen to the other kids I guess.
