Anyone ever hired a painter?

Someone DH works with does painting on the side, so he asked hos much ig usually costs to paint a room since we're redoing the kids rooms...I thought that since we were doing that, we'd see how much it would be to paint all the other rooms since we didn't do ceilings of trim when we moved in, just walls. I thought maybe $700 for the house (6rooms) and this guy said $400-500 PER ROOM and I almost choked. Just wondering if this is accurate??

$700 for the house is really cheap but $400-500 per room is a lot.

We had our house painted and it was 5 big rooms, 3 baths and the halls and we paid 2500.  That included stripping two rooms of wall paper and patching up a few nicks on walls.  And we also colored in different colors....We couldn't believe how much the paint cost....that was without the paint

we recently paid $800 for the 2 huge rooms and a hallway in my basement. Close to 900 square feet. Plus the cost of paint which was something crazy like $400.

Matt is a painter and it's impossible to know what an appropriate per room cost is without knowing a few things. How big a room, how many windows and doors, how much prep work is required and how much trim work, if any... $400 a room doesn't sound bad, but it does depend.

When we bought our house we had every room painted, including trim & ceilings.  Total of 6 rooms and one staircase hallway and I believe we paid $3000.

It's been forever since I've painted, so im no help. My neighbor is a painter and just did my husbands entire office, and they were really happy. If you want to page me, I'll give you his info. I'm pretty sure we live close to each other.
