Tips for luring a skiddish dog?
There is a white terrier running around the campus of our university for 2 days.
Faculty, staff, and students have all tried to catch him. He'll eye you and get about 10 feet from you, then he books it. He's a fast sucker. I'm not ready to call animal control because they have a really high euthanasia rate. I'd rather get him myself, and keep him until I can and make contact with a rescue (or find the owner if possible).
I'm coming in tomorrow with armed with food and hoping that does the trick.
He looks like he's in good health and is wearing a collar. I'm desperate to get him home. It's so cold out
Re: Tips for luring a skiddish dog?
Time and patience with really good stinky food. Sit and wait for him to come to you- don't chase him or look him in the eye. Just sit and wait.
You can also see if any local rescues have a trap you can use- it's basically a modified crate, but you have to be available to check it often.
Shelby adopted after 9 months!
THanks!
I was so excited to see in your siggy that Shelby was adopted (I've been quasi MIA)! You are/were so dedicated to her. How awesome that she *finally* found a home!

Also, try a long slip lead. Much easier to get on them fast than anything else I've tried.
And ditto the yay for Shelby being adopted, Pittieboo, I missed that too!
