Parents of school age kids ????
Ok, I am not normally like this, but if you are sending your kid (mostly boys) to school in shorts in the winter I am severely questioning your parentling skills. It is 19 freaking degrees out!!! and why don't schools have dress codes to control this?? don't they go out for recess anymore? these kids (I saw 2 boys on the way to work waiting for the bus in shorts...probably 7-ish years old) would be freezing outside for recess for 30-45 minutes, running around or not!! I don't know why, but this totally bothers me today.
Re: Parents of school age kids ????
Eh - there are bigger battles to fight. If wearing shorts to him was that important I'd be like go ahead and freeze. And look stupid with your winter coat, aviator hat and gloves.
i agree
I don't know, yeah there are bigger battles to fight, but when my kid comes downstairs wearing shorts this time of year, I am very quick to tell him he's going to freeze and to get upstairs and change. I'm still the parent. Get your ass up there and put on some pants, boy.
I am not home when Liam goes to school and as such I have little or no say over what he wears HOWEVER I have made it clear to him when he has to wear shorts as opposed to long pants. My sitter, God bless her, speaks little or no English and is suffering from Cancer so if he doen't follow her directions (and he mostly does) he hears about it from me when I pick him up and he is punished.
As a middle school teacher I am daily HORRIFIED at the hooker ensembles that pass as clothing on young girls. The day I would emblazon the word JUICY on my young daughers chest or a$$ would be the day I die. It is not jsut Juicy either - it is the jeans that are so low slung that I swear I see pubes, the belly shirts and the gstrings (yes I do see them - and on 6th graders). When you allow your daugher to dress that way you are selling something. Do not be surprised when someone wants to buy it.
Amen!!! And this is why I am Sooo happy my town has a uniform for the public schools!
well no I wouldnt allow it and yes I would question the parenting there, especially for an under 12 child. I mean if I let my kids out of the house in what they wanted it would be shorts and flip flop all year round. I am the parent who makes sure they are weather appropriate at least. I am not going to throw a fit about pink sparkly pants versus blue pants but weather appropriate yes.
What I find is I have to be firm and hold my guns on important things or you start to lose ground and credibility as a parent. I dont enforce this kind of stuff how do I enforce the other things as well.
This is how I plan to deal.. lol
