zumba for someone with NO coordination

I have ZERO coordination. seriously zero. i mean even my bff who loves me with all her heart tells me that. my dh says i have the coordination of a toddler learning to walk. and i have come to accept i have no coordination. and dancing HA....

they have a zumba at my gym and classes are included. will i be setting myself up to be totally pissed off at myself? or is it as "friendly" as they claim it to be

Re: zumba for someone with NO coordination

  • I took a class in the fall. My instructor was seriously 70+ years old! As a result, it was slow moving class and anyone who did not have any coordination would have been fine. However, it is my understanding that Zumba is very intense. I say try it, can't hurt, and if it's too much, don't go back. You may be surprised at yourself!!
  • DO IT! You don't have to get all of the moves right, the important part is to keep moving & have fun!

It is very fun, it varies a lot by instructor in terms of intesity.

If you're dancing along, and feeling uncoordinated, look around the room, there will always be someone MORE uncoordinated.

  • I say do it. I was in a class a few times with this lady who had no coordination, and she knew it, but she loved the vibe of the class. At times, I would glimpse over at her and she was just smiling, concentrating, and bouncing around. It looked like she was having a great time! Do it and have fun!
  • I'm glad to see these positive responses. I'd love to try a class sometime.

I also have zero coordination (as GilliMax can vouch for since we take the same exercise class right now) but everyone just says keep moving so I do. I'm starting to get better at it. It's not Zumba but we do some step exercises and I always have trouble with them. But I'm trying and that's what's important.

  • I just bought a pass on Groupon to try it so I am glad to see these responses too!
  • GO....Zumba is fun....Do not look in the mirror : )   I have coordination but it is so fast that it takes time to catch on.....
  • I'm glad you asked. My Y has it and I've got two left feet. I keep hearing "anyone can do it" but I figured people would be honest.
