My long term sub wants me to write her a letter of recommendation. We have an opening with our team next year, but I really don't think she is the person for the job. She asked me a few months ago if I would write her a letter, and I said sure. At the time, it didn't seem like a big deal, but now there are some concerns that have come up. She emailed me again today and asked me if I could have a letter for her by the end of the week so she could submit it with an application to our HR department.
What do I do? I have never actually seen her teach, so I could try to use that as an excuse not to write her a letter. I talked to our assistant principal a bit about it, and she said I could still write her a letter, it just doesn't need to be all positive. My concern with this is that she could still possibly get hired, then that would be a little awkward since there are team is 5 people. She is a very nice person, I just don't think she's a good fit. I've contemplated talking to the administrator assigned to our team too, since she is the one in charge of hiring. Ugh, this sucks!

What are your concerns?
There have been issues with her classroom management. They have been addressed, but I don't know how things have been going since I've been gone.
Her time management isn't great. She taught a lesson that should have taken 2-3 weeks to finish, and it took 7. How that happened is beyond me.
I've left lessons for her to teach, and she obviously misinterpreted the directions. I don't care if she teaches things differently, but she messed it up so much, she missed the point of the content she was teaching.
could you submit it directly to hr? then you could be more honest and not feel as pressured. you could talk about what she would be a good fit for and then you can be positive without feeling like you are recommending her for this position.
TTC #1 since 08/11 IUI#2 = BFP!
Does she do anything good?
