Florida Keys

I'm planning a long weekend (Thurs-Sun or Mon) trip for my friends 30th birthday and I was looking for some hotel and things to do recs. I haven't decided if we are going to Key West and stay or stop along the way for a night. It's group of 4 girls 30ish.

Thoughts?

Re: Florida Keys

  • We did this 2 years ago and spent the entire time in Key West - we had so much fun! Depends on what you looking for but we did a lot of drinking, shopping and sight seeing. We stayed at the Orchid Key Inn - beautiful place to stay! We flew into Miami and drove into Key West - took about 3-4 hours - probably would save the time and fly right into Key West next time. We went on an all day snorkle, parasailing, jet skiing trip with Fury Water Sports - that was fun and well worth the money. We also did a booze cruise with Fury - was a lot of fun too!

This is what we plan on doing! I didn't know you could fly right into KW, so I will look into that.   Thanks!

  • We got married in Islamorada & honeymooned in Key West.  Key West definitely has more options for you as far as entertainment.  We stayed at the Casa Marina in Key West (we splurged b/c it was our honeymoon) but it's amazing!!  And it has a beach which is hard to find in Key West.

  • Review and pics from the past two yrs trips to KW in link above my siggy pic.

  • For a girls' birthday trip (Happy Birthday!) I would probably do the entire time in Key West. We also love the Casa Marina and try to stay there every time we go. We've also stayed at the Westin, which is right off of Duval in Mallory Square so that location can't be beat. I will link my favorite KW bars and restaurants:

If you do drive down from MIA, I would definitely recommend stopping in Islamorada at the Cheeca Lodge for lunch and maybe even to watch the sunset (Lorelei's and Morada Bay/Pierre's are both great for this).

  • Cheeca Lodge is nice in Islamorada.
