Good beach towns to rent in - S of PPB, N of CM?

We want to do a beach house with two other families this summer - in NJ - but not all the way in Cape May where we usually vacation. I'm hoping to come a bit north since they're all coming down from NH. What would be, say, South of Pt Pleasant, North of Cape May/Wildwood, that would be good for three active families, totaling six adults and 7 kids between the ages of 6 and 12?

TIA!

  • Definitely LBI or Ocean City for families.  A good realtor in OC is Berger Realty

  • LBI!

I could be mistaken, but I think there's a Nestie's dad on here who owns a real estate company in LBI. I'm sure he could help you. I **think** it's Katie (the photographer).

  • for kids that age, i think i would do ocean city over lbi bc of the boardwalk...
  • LAVALLETTE!!!!!!!  But I am biased!  Close enough to enjoy the sights of Seaside if you want, close enough to PP for the boardwalk, great restaurants and a nice, quiet beach town!  Ocean Beach, Silver Beach, Bayhead, Mantaloking, Ortley are all other nice areas near Lava!

Otherwise I'd agree with LBI....but I like the quieter areas.  We stay in Harvey Cedars with my ILs and it's quiet....and not a lot to do right in walking distance.  You have to drive to most stuff.

  • with kids, i would definitely do ocean city because of the boardwalk. LBI has an amusement park area and a water park... but ocean city has a whole boardwalk with all kinds of games, rides, food, etc.... i think it would great for kids around your son's age.

its a dry town, but just pack your own :-) its actually good because it keeps most of the "JErsey Shore" shadys out :-)

  • Sorry duplicate!  :)

  • also you can just drive over the bridge from OC to buy alcohol - I forget the name of the town

  • Surf City on LBI.  They have some large houses on the beach, but tons of great properties.  Surf City is less busy than say, Beach Haven.  It's more homey there than touristy, not that I'd call any of it really touristy, but it's kind of a different vibe...  We love Surf City!
  • Ventor, Margate, Ocean City, Stone Harbor although Stone Harbor is pretty south and close to Cape May I love it there!  We never stayed but we always stop there on our way home from CM.

  • My vote would be LBI. The beaches are historically really clean (we live near the beach in monmouth county and we actually drive south for the better, cleaner beaches).  Within LBI, I'd recommend beach haven or haven beach--because they are closer to the small amusement park and shopping.  It can actually take a long time to get from one end of the island to the other, so definitely research the activities you want vs the level of quiet you want (note no place on the island is particularly "rowdy"--so you're pretty safe wherever you choose).  Enjoy!
