We are going to have to git rid of satellite due to costs. I am looking into purchasing from itunes or netflix. We watch a lot of tv, too much infact. DH is worried netflix won't have current seasons and think itunes would get expensive fast. Hulu+ seems like a waste to us.
Are there other options or does one of these work better than the other in your opinion.
Re: getting rid of cable/sat
Once football is over, this is exactly what we'll be doing. Netflix doesn't have current seasons, but Hulu+ does. We can also hook the laptop up to the TV and watch things that stream live on the individual channels websites too. We aren't paying for Hulu+ right now, but might down the road - for right now, Netflix has a ton of kid's stuff and we're good with the free channels.
No more baby siggie pics. Boo.
BEST THING WE EVER DID!
Hulu plus is worth it! I watch current seasons on there, Glee, Dancing with the Stars, Once Upon a Time.
You may have to wait until a season is over to watch it on Netflix as well, which is fine with us. We used to use the Wii for Netflix, but we got a blu ray player with internet and we can watch all kinds of good stuff. It is so much cheaper to abandon cable and satellite. It also opens you up to playing, reading and doing all kinds of other things with the kid!

Netflix does not have current seasons.
The cheapest way to watch current seasons is to get an antenna to get the local channels.
The only problem with this is that if you have shows that are on at the same time you have to chose which show you are going to stay current with. We've found that it cuts down on the amount of tv that we watch because we only watch one show each night as opposed to using the DVR and following many shows.
It's been about 1.5 years since we got rid of satellite. I was a big tv watcher but we killed it over the summer and by the time the new seasons started I wasn't that into it. First, we started with just Netflix. Then this fall ended the DVD part of netflix and added Hulu+ so we could easily watch the current seasons. I picked a couple of shows I wanted to keep up on and watched them on line. I didn't miss it at all. Now because of DH's employer we get free HBO Go and I'm slipping back into tv addiction.
There are an amazing number of kids shows especially PBS on Netflix streaming they also seem to always have at least one Disney/Pixar movie in rotation. Currently it's Tangled.

We don't have cable, and haven't for a while now. I had been watching everything on the laptop, but got a Roku for Christmas and I love it.
We have Netflix, Hulu+ and we watch a lot of random movies on the (free) Crackle network. I can watch almost anything new and have found a lot of old TV shows too.

This may be a stupid question, but how do you hang on to your internet service after getting rid of cable? What internet do you use and how much does it run? I want to get rid of cable!!
