s/o new house - decor for guest room

So we will have a dedicated guest room now and I do not like the color in there now - it is a super light green. My mom - who calls this her room - will be sleeping there the majority of the time. She said we should paint it a light lilac color because she says it is super trendy right now and she likes it and would spring for the bedding to match it. DH doesn't love the idea of that color, but was like whatever. My original plan was to paint it fairly neutral and use some old bedding we already had so we didn't have to buy much for it.

The guest room is on the main floor so when you walk through our living area it will be beiges/browns/turquoise accents into this room. And adjacent to this room is a bathroom which will be painted also.

Anyway, what color scheme would you go with for the bedroom and bathroom? How much does it really need to flow with the main floor colors? Give me your ideas as I owe the paint guy a color choice as he is starting to paint Monday!

Re: s/o new house - decor for guest room

  • grey tones are more on trend right now.  you can use pops of purple/yellow for accents and I think those accents would be complimentary to the turquoise.  although I don't think you need as much flow for a closed space like that.

  • Totally agree with Ondrea. I'd do a grey/greige color on the walls and do pops of a deep, royal purple. I really like the idea of a yellow for a third accent. The grey background makes it really neutral, so you could change things up really easily.

I'm so excited for you guys! I can't wait for pictures :)

  • Do you have stained or painted trim? Weird question, but it'll sway my decision :)

  • I too was thinking grey/greyish tones so that you could use purple tones as accent, but you aren't married to the purple/lilac.

Who's your painter, Joel the painter?

    Congrats on the new house!!!!

    We have white trim.

That makes it easy then. I would definitely go with a subtle grey. I really like Glidden's Sandstone.
