A post about boobs and 2u2 kids

I'm AWing it up while I only have one kiddo....

Re: 2 kids under 2....
-It has been 100 times easier transitioning from one kid to two than it was going from no kids to one.
-Thus far, B rocks in the sleep world, she is only really up from 10:30-12:30 and then 4-7. I still get tons of time with A, and it's a wonderful thing to have a kid who will nap and only does 30 minute feedings at night (A would only nap on someone and was up for 1-2 hours for a feeding....)
-There are a few times where it's a little crazy, but nothing unmanagable.

And the boob part...
Some may remember me posting about it with A, but he had a horrid latch for breastfeeding, was a super slow eater (from breast and bottle), I lost all of my supply when I got an infection at 6 days PP, and I EPed for 7 weeks, getting at most 3 oz total/day for milk while on every herbal supplement and reglan as well.

B latched immedately after delivery (A was passed to the NICU team and I didn't get to hold him for around an hour), and has a fabulous latch. She nurses like a champ and I have a great supply-I get about 8-12oz/day pumping after her morning feeding and before bed in addition to nursing her exclusively right now. However, we are dealing with weight issues....she is sitting at 8 lb 6 oz currently (9.3 at birth, 9 at discharge, 8.6 at 4 days old, 8.9 at 5 days old, 8.9 at 10 days, and back down to 8.6 at 13 days). We have done tons of LC meetings, weighted feedings-she gets from 1.5-2.5 oz/feeding and is nursing 8-10 times/day (we have tried adding in a session or syringe feeding and she won't have anything to do with either), and had my milk content tested. Everything looks great (she even had a CBC done yesterday and her bloodwork was awesome), she is just a skinny little girl. For the next month I have to do 2 measured nursings/day and am calling in weights to our pedi twice a week.

Finally, because I love talking about my boobs, I never thought I would be happy to have a yeast infection in my ducts, but I am-simply because it means I am able to nurse this kiddo. I was GBS+ this time around and the ab's caused a yeast infection, most noticeable in my right breast. B has zero symptoms, but of course she is being treated as well. I swear, with the amount I have flashed my boobs to medical professionals in the past 2.5 weeks I may as well be a topless dancer.

  • It is amazing how different experiences can be from one kid to the next.  I'm so glad that bf is going well for you this time!  I remember how stressed it made you and how disappointed you were that it wasn't working.

  • I'm so glad you posted this! I get so nervous about having 2 under 2 so this definitely makes me feel better.

I am really keeping my fingers crossed that baby number 2 has an easier time nursing than Wyatt did. We fought for 3 months with nipple shields before he learned to latch correctly. The nurses told me at first that he was so overdue he 'lost his sucking reflex'... I think he was drowsy and confused because of the epidural drugs. That won't be a problem this time because I'm hell bent on things going differently.

  • Glad all is going well :-)

It amazes me at the amount of modestly I lost when D was born :-P
