Gah! Why can't they just tell us whats wrong!!

So, DH is OOT & Im losing my mind here!

I left home @ 730 this morning, put Cooper in his Comfy Cone (b/c we think he's licking his penis & then licking a spot on his leg (b/c its in the same spot as the end of his penis)..& then licking that....this has been happening for awhile on & off. I've brought it up to the Vet & she's checked out his leg, I did xrays of his knee to make sure he was healing ok...he was put on anti-biotics b/c the Vet was afraid he might have an infection inside....anyway, all has been fine...w/some occasional bouts of licking of the leg & some limping of that leg....but Ive had him checked by 2 Vets & they both have given him good reports)

I got home @ 515 & Coop greeted me @ the door in his usual excited fashion. I took off his cone & checked his leg, & there was a little spot of clear/bloody fluid coming from the spot on his leg. I let him out & fed him, noting that he hadn't drank any water all day.....which isn't unusual since he had his cone on, & I don't think he realizes that he can drink & eat w/it on.

While I start getting ready to go for a walk, Coop starts walking around the kitchen licking the floor randomly, I get him by me & he's licking & licking his chops, so Im figuring he's going to throw up, so I let him back outside, & he just starts eating snow.

I get him back inside & we go for a quick walk (its bitter cold here) & he darn near runs & pulls me the whole way (which is unlike him. he knows how we walk- heeling) stopping lots to eat snow (again, unlike him). We get home & I get him undressed (jacket & boots) & he just seems off. Then he perks up quick, runs into the LR to get a toy b/c he wants to play. But its short lived. By the time I get my snow-gear off & go into the LR, his demeanor has changed & he's just standing there licking & licking his chops.

I quick grab a blanket & sit down in front of him & he immediately lays down. He's just licking & licking, shaking a little (fear?)...then not, but never pukes. After about a 1/2 hr he rolls onto his side so I can rub his belly....then goes back to licking & licking...trying to lick the carpet...blanket..etc....which I won't let him do.

Its been over an hr & he hasn't thrown up, & the licking is less & less....so I get up & sit on the couch & he jumps up here w/me & snuggles. He's settled a little, but a little drooly....& actually now he's sleeping.

Of course Im quick to think he ate like, salt or something on our walk....but this started before we left.....& I don't think he could have gotten into anything here @ home while I was @ work. 1. b/c he had his cone on & 2, b/c we keep our bedroom & bathroom doors closed.....& our house is pretty dog proof anyways....& he hasn't gotten into anything..besides cardboard...in our house in years!

GAH! Im flipping out! I don't know what to do/think!! I have to work tomorrow & so he'll be alone all day! Well, now Im sure Im coming home at noon to get him & take him back to work to take an xray of his knee & of his stomach (to see if he injested anything??). At last resort I could bring him to work w/me & just kennel him for the morning while I have patients...but I just know he'll whine the whole time!

Dammit! Why can't they just tell us whats wrong! Im so worried Crying I know I know, dogs throw up...but mine, really doesn't. Thats what is worrying me so much!! Im sure the knee & the puking symptoms are 2 separate things...but...Ugh! I know, I shouldn't jump to conclusions & I should just watch him for the next 24hrs....

  • Aw poor pup! I hope something is figured out soon, I hate when anything happens to the dogs or the baby, they can't tell us and it makes you worry soo much.
