if you've done a car or train themed kids birthday, please come in....

i'm working on ideas for Dietrichs 2nd birthday since I'm going to get really busy with work soon and a car party or train party is what i'm leaning towards.

can you share if you did any theme-specific foods (i saw a stack of chocolate mini donuts that you can call 'tires' for the car party's dessert table, and sandwiches cut into car shapes with a large cookie cutter).....

also what did you do for favors? i like everything to tie in together with the theme, and am probably driving myself crazy when i don't need to.

tia!

Re: if you've done a car or train themed kids birthday, please come in....

  • we went to a train 1st birthday party last year

she had cookies in the shape of trains put out

the cake looked like a train. (i'll see if i can find some pictures)

she had little cut outs of trains on paper and put a letter of his name on each as a banner

    no favors

  • I did transportation theme... I made rice krispie treats and used green, yellow and red icing to make them look like stop lights....we had the fun bus come so my friend that's a pastry chef made a cake in the shape of a bus....I used black plastic table clothes and bought yellow masking tape and put it down the middle of each table to make them look like roads.

For favors, I ordered luggage tags from Etsy. I ordered mini plain brown gift bags from oriental trading and looped the tag around the handles. In the bag I put a little sticker book that looked like passports, and some foam stickers and stampers that had cars, trains, buses, boats, etc. That was all from oriental trading. The luggage tag was a hit, the parents really liked it and I figured the kids would have fun w/ the stickers and stuff but it wasnt TOO much of the "dreaded bag of crap". LOL!
  • I also, well MH, made a sign that said "Baggage Claim" and hung it over the table that the favors were on
