This is pathetic, but in the over four years since our daughter was born, we haven't ever used a babysitter and have actually only gone out a handful of times, in which case our family watched them. Reading so many "I get out with my husband at least once a month" posts have depressed me into a resolution--I'm letting go of my unreasonable "I work and so shouldn't leave my kids on weekends" guilt and finding a sitter and going out with my husband!
Our son's daycare provider, who we obviously trust and like very much, has agreed to watch our two kids tomorrow night. Our son is 1 and I'll put him to sleep before we leave, so she'll just listen for him and hang with our four year old. I am nervous that our daughter will start to freak a little bc we're not there at her bedtime, even though she knows this person from being in our son's class daily at drop offs. All will be okay, right? Please convince me this is worth doing!
Also, what's an appropriate rate? 10/hour? Too low? I haven't a clue.
Re: help! first time using babysitter-nervous and ?s
Don't feel guilty! You need to go out w/the hubby...it's important for your relationship.
It's only 1 night...she'll be fine!!!!!!!!!!!! Stay 10 mins when she gets there so your daughter feels comfortable and they can engage a little before you bolt. haha
Have a great time. I pay my 21 year old sititer 12 an hour (2 kids). I don't expect any cleaning or anything. Just to interact w/my kids.
Everything will be fine!!!!
My sitters charge per kid: $10/one kid, $12/two kids, $15/three kids.........
If she freaks out, she'll get over it. Then the next time she won't. But, it's someone she knows, someone that she sees on a regular basis as someone who is a caregiver, so, honestly, I'd be surprised if she had any issue at all.
I pay my 12 yr old babysitter $5/hr, my 15 yr old sitter $8/hr, and my 19 yr old sitter told me she gets $12. This is all for one kid.
