Suggestions Plz...

DH and I just moved to the Louisville area (from out of state).  Any suggestions as far as places we should see in Kentucky?  We like to take an occasional "Day Date" trip and just see what there is to see in our area.  Preferably things that can be done without dropping too much ca$h.

Welcome! I would recommend the Bourbon Trail, even if you don't like Bourbon you get to see some really beautiful countryside! The whole trail takes two whole days, but you all could spilt it up. There is the cavern in Louisville, which is kind of cool. Mammouth Cave is really neat (it is located towards Bowling Green but would make a great day trip). If you like hiking you should check out the Red River Gorge area/Natural Bridge (in Eastern KY). I have always wanted to go on My Old Kentucky Home Dinner Train (in Bardstown) which looks really cool. HTH!!

Yes, thanks! I just saw this but I will def check into some of these.  I have never heard of some of those so that's the kind of thing I was thinking.  But I hadn't thought of Mammoth Cave either and it seems like a must!

I haven't checked this board in awhile and just now saw this. 

Do you like the outdoors?  My H and I live in the Lexington area, but we love hiking and exploring different trails throughout the state.  Sometimes we'll pack a lunch, go hiking, and find a nice lookout point to rest and eat.  Fun and free.    Two of our favorite places for this are Berea Forest and Natural Bridge State Park, but those might be a little far for you from Louisville or it may just not be your type of fun.  I'll delete these pics after you see them...

I like the PP's suggestion of Mammoth cave too.  We've been trying to find different things to do on a budget also so if I think of anything else or find something new I'll report back!

We're not super athletic, but we do like to do outdoorsy stuff.  So thanks, we will definitely check these out if possible.  We are working on losing weight and getting in better shape so hiking would be perfect for spring.  

ETA- we also love to take our dog with us when do go on day trips to parks and things.  Do you ladies know if dogs are allowed at any of the mentioned parks/attractions?

Dogs are definitely permitted at Berea Forest, but I'm not sure about the other places.  My guess would be no to the state parks.

I thought of a few other places, but they are in Lexington. 

*Keeneland and the KY Horse Park can be fun when there are races. 

*There's also the Aviation Museum; I've never been but I think it sounds neat. 

*There are tons of wineries around here also (Acres of Land's wines in Richmond are delicious, but I haven't toured the grounds or tried the restaurant) or the Bourbon Trail, like the PP mentioned, if it interests you.

I like getting ideas from Trip Advisor.  I'm from western KY so I'm new to this area.  I've been here over a year and still feel like I haven't done or seen much in the central/eastern part of the state, so my goal is to do more this year and add it to a travel blog.

I'm originally from central IN and lived in WI for a bit before moving here, near Louisville.  I actually just talked to H this morning about going to some of these places and he sounded pretty receptive.  I would love to go to the horse park, too.  I grew up showing horses in 4H and trail riding and all that good stuff so I think it would be fun.  Wineries would be fun too.  We were just talking about going to the tasting nights they have like 3 nights a week at this local place.  We gifted some KY wines from Elk Creek for Christmas and family really enjoyed them.  They have some cheap ones too - so if you need some gifts coming up...
